I would add an additional pair of drapes because they need more fullness. I would also consider getting a more colorful carpet and you need some kind of artwork over your small table that has the silver vase. Metal art above that table would look nice

Exactly what I was going to add. Two more curtain panels. They look very skimpy.

What about a lighter carpet, and a light that has white shades? Brings more light...

Also I was thinking of raising that rod above the window much higher, sometimes you can even go to right under ceiling, and create a full look of drapes when open on each side of wall, filling in those corners of wall where there are no windows.

Drapes do not always have to be right to the edge of windows I think...

You should try to offset the dark paint and table. Contrast.

I think the room is really cute! I feel a pop of color rug would take this to the next level. Do you see that trace of coral/rusty red in your art piece? A rug in that tone- maybe something global in print. You need something outside of the mold to add the wow. Just the rug. Have fun with it, good luck :)

I was just wondering, have you tried to hang the art you have over the glass console? I would like to see it that way if possible. I'm not crazy about the bench on the side of your table instead of chairs. If you have a good source for fabrics I think it would look better to maybe make a cushion the length of the bench out of fabric the colors in your art, and recover the chairs in that same fabric. Your room is nice just needs to be balanced with light & dark. I would not add another mirror. What does the white vase look like on the black table? Just curious

Since I posted I've been playing and decided I really don't care for the carpet. I removed it and moved the console table to the entrance hallway. I'm still waiting for my tall arch window mirror to arrive which I plan to put above the small black table. Thoughts on changes?? What should I put on the blank wall near the curtain where the art was? More art or I could move this clock there.

My ceilings are actually pretty high these are already 95 so I rather not change the drapes because then I'd waste these

Nikki good move with the artwork over that awesome console table!!! I love it in your entrance because you can see it so well there. The artwork over it looks great!!!! I love the mirror in your dining room where it is now that you've moved the glass console. I wouldn't put the clock in there. I would get more artwork for the wall it was on. The drapes are enough pattern without having the clock next to them. One thing though, please take the black stool out from under that gorgeous console. It is taking away from that table IMO. Also remove one of the items from the table top. It is a little crowded

I love the second one! I have it, and it really brightens up my room while giving a soothing effect. Not too busy!

If the wall color works for you that is all that counts, but it oppresses me. Consider lightening it up.

Your furnishings are all very nice! The window area is the only thing that seems off to me. I would either....remove that blind .....or cover the blind with sheers,.....or add two more drapery panels ( which should be lined). I do not like to see blinds/shades as part of the decor.

I also don't care for the blinds showing but do need them for privacy, outside is my fence so not a good view . I will consider adding sheers, good idea thanks!

I like what's happening so far with the console in the hallway (which is directly across the dining room) but then I have the dreaded design dilemma of the niches! I feel like adding the same art is too boring so this stumps me. Also I haven't hung the art I realize it's low

I'm not gonna change the wall color because it's throughout the entire common areas, plus it is nighttime so pics do look extra dark. I wish it was lighter though!

Maybe an accent wall?

Now seeing the niches are in view - why not 'sister art' pieces? and larger to fill it more and rectangular, or....

I would love to see some texture added to the room. - You can do this with accents or with furniture. Also, all of your furniture and wall decor are rectangular. It would also be nice to soften the room by adding a few greens. Ikea has great small faux greens and cute braided baskets.

Idea to place fabric or tapestry in the niches [tacked on, starched or however] -

2 of these [for example at $56.] Show your likes, your locale ....

Your branches? Van Gogh's branches in wallpaper - for niches? finding different parts for each one. Would need a framing or something. Might be too delicate a look, but idea for wallpaper.

Or textured grasscloth in cool modern soft eggplant, then with sister art over?

I think the artwork inside the niches will be fine but I agree with above, it needs to be more rectangular or longer. If it's going to be hanging inside the niche you want to fill it up as close as possible. You could get coordinating artwork for those and use that piece back in the dining room. What is the dimensions of the niches and I'll see what I can find

Try changing out the curtains- too busy. If you want to glam it a bit, look for faux velvet puddle curtains in champagne color would wow this room! TJ Maxx or Marshalls has them and I own a pair- best purchase ever! It will give color balance against your dark walls. Good luck!

Nikki - I like your mix of lighting, mirror, curtains and dining table. Have you considered a small patterned console table under your silver mirror to compliment the mix? Also, I think two gold frames with your choice of artwork would give the walls some breathing room.

You have some beautiful things. I really like the change you made with the console table. I feel like the room needs color, perhaps paint the niches. Also, it needs something personal that says this is YOUR home.

I think what you need is an accent color (not white) for throughout your entire home. I would choose artwork that has a few colors such as both blues and greens so you can change your accent color later without changing your artwork.

I think you definitely need companion (sister) artwork for your entryway. I would also buy artwork that is rectangle (not square) for the two niches. The curtains will look a lot better if they are hang higher and wider. I would buy white curtains and add the current curtains as a pattern to the bottom.

Here are two companion pieces that are 40 wide and 53 tall. They would look nice in your niches and add some color

The niches are HUGE they are 70 inch high in the middle. I feel like finding art that I love as much, that would be that tall would be hard. If would also be very expensive. I'm a bargain shopper. Plus I really like how the gold and silver play together in the painting and the console table

Some fine tuning for the space.

• Your drapery panels should start at the ceiling.
• There should be double or triple the panels on the rod, so the fabric doesn't look like just fabric on the rods. There should be pleats or ripples on the rod
• The chandelier seems too small for the space, so change the size and heft of the chandelier
• The mirror should be turned vertically in the space to reinforce the height of your windows.
• Add a decorative bowl filled with orchids to the console to soften the hard line of the console and mirror
• IMO you don't need this rug for the space. If you want some type of area rug to lighten the room, I might suggest an indoor outdoor area rug or one with a bolder pattern that works with your drapery

Why not try higher and longer drapes over the window? Your space is coming along wonderfully by the way. See our attached designs here to give you some idea on the height of the drapes.

Get beautiful removable wallpaper for your niches with a sculpture on the ledge. The wallpaper should echo any nearby art or finishes.

If you are going to use the current painting with gold as the accent color you should buy a gold vase and a gold bowl.

This is them hung , still debating ... I'm not sold on the whole area. I do like this art and considering they were $70 each that is major points in my book.
That site has some gorgeous pieces in the correct taller size, but there also like a grand lol (sigh)

Nighttime

I'm sorry Nikki, but that just doesn't do the console table justice. It needs to stay centered under the one you had it under and the artwork is just too small there. Can you hang one over the other and just fill in the other niche?

To further the glam [yes what you like?] of art's metallic, imo the black stool is holding it back [unless a great fabric?]... something cool above them as suggested? the flowers seem too delicate from what I can tell...

I said the same thing about the black stool everdebZ. It doesn't look good with the beautiful console.

What about adding wp in niches ... maybe b/w art? Or just one centered [over console] a plate standing on console in pop of your color.

Just ideas to throw around: wp, colorful rug [by your entry?] and mirror [which you have nearby]... if you had an indoor/outdoor entry rug, maybe a cool wp in the niches would be 'enough'.... sort of.

I love black and white curtains! Here is a room I did with Black and white curtains. I did a light rug, a light ceiling, and a strong color on the wall. You could do a coral or a robins egg blue on your walls, and a cornflower blue always looks good with black and white. You have a wide range of colors that work with black and white. The art in this room was mostly black and white, with one large colorful abstract oil painting.

Forgot to share the changes I made. I ended up scraping the furniture and starting over. So glad I did! Soon I’ll be adding crown molding, wainscoting and repainting a lighter color. Rig is just temporary :)
On the hallway wall I’ll be closing in the left niche which was weirdly off centered and adding a gallery family photo wall in the center one . Excited!!!
