You may be overthinking this. My pulls have a 1.5" projection (Amerock Revitalize) and the counter overhang from the cabinet box is 1 1/4 - 1 1/2". I have never run into my pulls.

Yes I may be overthinking this... considering your doors are probably 5/8, it means your pulls stick out 5/8?

I think the standard overhang of 1-1/4" to 1-1/2" from the cabinet box is fine. One disadvantage to deeper overhangs is access to the top drawers. Even with full extension slides, it would be more difficult accessing the back of the drawers.

We have three pull sizes in our kitchen. Depending on where the pulls were mounted on the drawer front (rail/stile vs panel) and the variance in overhang measurements our fabricator left us with (we specified 1-1/4", but ended up with anywhere from 1-1/16" to 1-1/2"!), the pulls themselves extend outward of the countertops from 5/8" to 1-1/2". I think if I'd extended the overhang any further, I'd run more of a risk of running my hips into the corner of the countertops.

Thanks javiwa. You say 1-1/16 to 1-1/2 : is this overhang measuring from the doors or the cabinets?

Also don't you find 1-1/2" pull protrusion annoying? Or your rounded shape probably diminishes the problem.

Mike: 1-1/6-1-1/2" is measured from the cabinet face to the edge of the countertops. (After installation, the overhangs went as far out as 1-3/4", despite our kitchen being measured twice and templated twice! Needless to say, I will never have my kitchen renovated again...but I digress.)

The 1-1/2" protrusion is from the oversized (18-1/2") pulls installed on our two 36"-wide banks (pictured above). Maybe it's a mental thing: we purchased these pulls off Amazon during some insane sale/pricing error ($15 as opposed to the standard $100+) -- maybe I've just convinced myself not to care how far they stick out. :)

Or maybe the aisle is wide enough, such that it's never an issue.

Or maybe, due to our not having changed the footprint of our cabinets (we've lived here for 25+ years), we didn't need to 'get used to' a different path which may have involved dodging new protrusions.

I think everyone is overthinking! My overhangs vary from 1.5" to 2" from the cabinet face and I have no problems accessing any of my top drawers. I do have full-extension. If you have partial extension, then it's possible you might have issues, but I doubt an extra 1/2" (or even 5/8") is going to make much of a difference even then.

The aisle widths, though, may be an issue - especially if the deeper overhangs are on both sides of the aisles and if you already have narrow aisles.

I no longer own the house but i had 2" overhang on the granite - so very easy to scoop stuff off the countertop into a pan (and yes, I had a mat over the granite when chopping). I loved that 2" (keep in mind I didn't have pull out drawers in that house - cabinets with doors).
