This is my living room window in my open concept home. Notice the front door. Walk on thru to the kitchen and dining room

I hate the black curtains and want to do a roman blind for sure in kitchen, but what to do to the dining room and living room? Here is the oh so gorgeous fabric I want to incorporate but it's $10 A yard and I will need 10 or 15 yards for curtains.

Should I use sheers on that huge window? I'm in love with the quatrefoil, but can I mix that with my other elements too? My rug is the only other print in here

I am also needing a couch and loveseat and was thinking of one in a turquoise-ish color, called Darcy sky from Ashley furniture. I'm very tired of earth tones...except gray.

I would suggest having the same curtain treatment on the living room and dining room windows since the rooms are open to each other. Also, although it often works well to hang curtains higher to give the illusion of height, in this case I would hang the dining room curtains at the top of the windows so the kitchen cabinets do not seem shorter by comparison and there is more of a continuous visual line between the dining room and kitchen.

On a seperate note, is there any way you could use your couch as a divider to create a walkway from the front door, and place your tv on the wall adjacent to the dining room?

Or put the sofa under the window and the tv on the wall?

Yes Lindsey. I'm doing Windows now but when I find a sofa, I want a sofa chaise sectional, we will have the tv on the wall to the left of the front door. Elle, all rooms are open to each other. Personally, the curtains are so heavy and there's so much natural light, I hate to think curtains

Sometimes you just have to wait for a fabric sale. Joann's has a 50% off coupon on fabrics.

I agree with tv on the wall, grey sofa and pleated pull down shades. The acquaintance sofa will be tired looking in a few years. Go neutral.

I would do roman shades for all the windows. $10/yard is a bargain for good fabric. I'm not seeing either of those fabrics with your rug. Maybe use it in the kitchen & DR and then a stripe in the same colors fro LR

Chiflipper, thanks for the coupon. Normally it is good for 1 item, i.e. one yard of fabric, so I overlooked that one. Jck910, the fabric will look hideous, I feel, with the rug

here is a shot against my rug. Don't like it.

    Here's another fabric choice

    this is so hard

Since the rug is a large organic print, choose a smaller print or a geometric for your valance. The colours should be taken from your a rug and since the binding is turquoise, I think that colour should be included. A
quatrefoil in turquoise and cream would be perfect

I read above that you are planning on moving your tv to the wall left of the front door. Definitely do that, then move your sofa so it is across from the tv. To separate the living and dining rooms, I would place a swivel chair with an end table on the right sofa (in it's new position) which will create a visual break between spaces. In your kitchen, dining room, and living room, I would use the same color scheme so it all feels unified. For your curtains, I would use different curtains. One room (example: dining) could have patterned curtains then the other room (example: living) could have solid curtains. The key is that the solid curtain color is one of the patterned curtain colors. This will let each room have its own identity and visually relate.

Lindsay, I am in love with quatrefoil designs. Actually the Moroccan flavors is what I would love to bring into the rooms. Deborah, I love what u said. That was in my future plans as soon as I get my sofa. Would a sectional be ok In here or would separate pieces, i.e ottoman, loveseat, chaise and chair be Better. I don't have much yet but getting there. And I'm not sure about that light of a blue with my latest project being in here. My kitchen "island" without legs right now.

Can you post some more pictures, of each whole room in good light?

Yes, definitely bring the island colour up to the window! That will be perfect. And then as Interiors by Deborah Beaman LLC noted, a solid colour the matches the print for the dining room. So imagining you used the fabric I posted, you could do a valance in the kitchen, creamy beige panels in the dining room, and an aqua roman shade in the living room.

I would recommend neutral furniture. I know you're tired of earth tones except grey, but it makes sense to buy neutral for your big pieces so you can update your look with new paint and accessories without buying new sofa and chairs. Unless you invest in a high quality piece that is such a reflection of your true self that you'll make it work as trends and your own taste change.

Here are some updated shots, pardon the mess.

Lindsey what do u mean bring Island color up to window?

She means use the blue of the island in the fabric on the windows. A fabric with the blue in it that reads as a solid would be best with your rug. Another pattern like your 3rd choice would look too busy. These are some fabrics that read solid when hung up. May not be the right colors just trying to give you examples. I think you could still use your first choice in the kitchen & dining area as they are far away from rug.

Yes, that is what I meant :)

I think you need to declutter, there is to much stuff in the small place and invest in lots of storage so you can put away things that make it look messy, ask yourself :do I really need all this??

Osukee, I just moved in. And honestly I don't see clutter. I see a mess. One darn counter in the whole kitchen and no dishwasher so there ya have it

I was all over the Moroccan designs in turquoise and gray and gemstone colors then I saw them with some yellow and had to do something with it. I am going to do sheers in dining room and roman blinds in kitchen and living room. Living room will be a sheer but a solid color or small geometric print and the kitchen will be the damask with the yellow and a coordinating gray or silver or match living room. I just HAVE to have that blind

I can see that, that's why I said invest in storage once you put everything away you will be able to see the place and plan your colours and curtains etc. If you rush things you might have to spend more money to fix it . Usually it's good idea to live in a place for a while before you start redecorating.

This is my 1st time in here and the advice is so awesome. I thought I was a good decorator, but I've been out of it for 4 years. Had a tee tiny apartment with a slumlord for a landlord. So here I am in my first home in over 5 years. I'm so in love with the grays and sea and gemstone colors, I want it everywhere. Lol ty all so much

So I've decided to do these curtains in living and dining room. I think the pattern is sleek and subtle enough with my rug (I'm not opposed to moving the rug)

And this for my roman blind

With a patterned rug , colourful Island in the kitchen and open plan layout that's going to give you a headache in a week, because you will have trouble coordinating sofas and chairs ect. Stick to plain blinds and drapes. If you are using drapes go for roller blind, otherwise just use Roman blind, having Roman and drapes in a small place is to much and Roman stacks up it will not work. You are a young lady and you are picking old lady's style. Go for simple lines and not fussy and busy patterns. Regardless of what I think use this principle. Pick something whether it's curtain, chair , cushions and live with the IDEA OF IT in your place for a week. If you are still in to it after a week go and gat it.

Sophie are u telling me that my pictures and candles have to go away now? I'm connected to everything in here except my rug and this god awful sofa. I am starting over so what I have, I keep. I literally have 1 kitchen counter and no dishwasher. My home will always look lived in since I'm a sole caregiver to mom and my son lives with me. I love the crates and storage solutions, and I'm working on that too.

Don't throw anything out just take it easy no impulse buying.

Your pictures and candles, and ''décor items'' have to be edited, and then displayed as collections. Editing does mean some of it goes away. A lot, in fact. Some to storage that gets rotated out. Some to someone else, or the trash. Inanimate objects cannot all have 100% the same sentimental attachment. Some things are more important than others. All are less important than the people in your space, and the negative effect that the clutter has on those people.

Start ranking the objects. Put 20 of the least attached ones in a box, take a picture of each, and put it in the garage, In a months time, if you haven't gone out to the garage to get something out, you can donate it or throw it away. You will still have the picture. Repeat that every month.

What a brilliant idea. I do see items I can move out. Osukee, ...sigh... I'm bad about that, but I really wanna get these windows done. I did see a window with grey sheers on the outside and white ones on the inside. I actually did like that but will more than likely use these on living and dining room and a valance in kitchen
