Squeegee vs Microfiber towel for drying shower tile and glass

We completely remodeled our Master Bath 4 years ago and learned so much from this forum. We have always squeegeed the entire shower after each use and it looks practically brand new. However, using the squeegee has become painful with my arthritic hands. Enduring mentioned on this forum that she uses a microfiber towel instead. She said she purchased it from The Rag Company and it is 20" x 40". I went to their website and they have so many to pick from. I went with the Platinum Pluffle in the same size (they have a smaller size also). I can't begin to tell you how much easier and faster the towel is. It is amazing and I now look forward to wiping the tile as well as the glass. IT IS AMAZING! What might seem like a small thing (a microfiber towel) is a huge improvement over the squeegee it and makes me so happy. I ended up ordering mine from Amazon because The Rag Company was out of stock. It was still fulfilled by the Rag Company and came in a 2 pack for $26.95. My husband was happy to claim the second one for his car. If you hate to squeegee, or can't get family members to do it, please try one of these towels.

Thank you for the reminder. I had forgotten where to order those towels.

I've been using a microfiber towel to wipe down the tile walls around my tub/shower. It's a large size, originally bought at BBB to dry my hair. It's much easier to use and more effective than a squeegee. I also want to acknowledge Enduring for her recommendation.

So well said Chattanana. I actually got the tip from Recordaras 3 years ago. She posted about The Rag Company. There is no looking back, lol.

Just take care of your microfibers! Wash them with as little detergent as you can as well as NO fabric softener so they stay plenty absorbent.

As an alternative if anyone is interested, I don't use a microfiber but a just-right sized handtowel that is super absorbent, yet thin enough to dry well (martha stewart from macys, IIRC) I use it to wipe down the walls and chrome, then step out on as a mat. When I'm dry, I hang it up on a bar in the shower. It lasts a few showers and then I wash it.

Microfiber clothes work best washed by themselves so they don't pick up lint from other items. The Korean ones are reportedly the best. I wash mine in hot water, by themselves. I never use fabric softener. Machine dry low, or hang to dry.

Here is a good post from the laundry forum. And as usual, there are a variety of opinions.

I use both a squeegee and a big fluffy microfiber cloth (thanks Enduring!). The squeegee moves a lot of water out of the way quickly. Then I follow with the cloth, esp. on the chrome parts. Everything gleams and I never have to do a periodic scrub. I wash the microfiber with the rest of my white towels and then just let it air dry. Mine's huge but I'm too lazy to cut it and sew the edges.

I use a small kitchen sponge to pick up 99% of the water and I squeeze it out down the drain. Then I use a regular bathroom towel to dry the tiles fully......

Lots of ways to get that shower dry! Yeah! So nice to never have to clean scummy walls.

I'll also say again that I don't have any glass enclosure walls to bother with. I just wash the shower curtain every couple of weeks.

You are much more systematic than me, lol. I just grab the towel in both hands and wipe both hands along the wall. I don't turn to new dry spots in the towel, I just keep going. The towel this size doesn't need wringing out, which is a time saver, and easy on arthritic hands.

I want to try these but the shower walls are high so I still need a long handled squeegee ---

I don’t worry about the high areas cause the water doesn’t get there. I reach to about 6 or so feet and no problem.

FWIW, you could probably get some kind of grabber extension and place the microfiber in the grabber to reach high spots.

For anyone starting a remodel, get Showerguard for your glass enclosure and you don't have to squeegee or towel down. I hose the glass down at the end of a shower to get rid of any stray blobs of shampoo or conditioner and that's it. No streaks or deposits at all. There is no way I would want to have to squeegee after every shower and police every one using a shower. Obviously there is a cost to upgrading to Showerguard but amortized over the life of a shower, it's minimal per day.

Where does everyone put the towel to dry after?i dont want my bathroom looking cluttered and i already have 3 towels on wall racrack and my microfiber hair towel hanging on back of

I drape my towel neatly over the Top of the glass shower door

I put it in the dryer for 10 minutes along with damp towels. They’re wet, not dirty as I just showered.

We have a floor to ceiling glass wall (no door) in our step-in shower area. I use a squeegee to remove most of the water, then drape a microfiber cloth - about 10"x10" - over the squeegee to get up high (usually just steam, not water splatter). I use the cloth by hand to wipe any areas missed by the squeegee and down at the bottom where the glass meets the ledge. I place the cloth on a suction cup hook in the shower area and launder it regularly. Hang to dry or just lay it flat on the running dryer because it dries so quickly. Hubby does the squeegee'ing too and it really only takes a minute or two. Even if it's not a thorough job it's still prevents a lot of scrubbing in the long run!

In 2014, on Enduring's recommendation, I got a large 40x20 microfiber towel with which to wipe down my new shower tiles and fixtures. It was always a bit too big and kinda ugly, but it worked so beautifully I didn't care. My white subways and light gray grout look as good as the day they were installed.

In a fit of tidying up for guests, I stashed the microfiber towel somewhere and can't find it. I needed one badly, and found this thread that speaks highly of the Pluffle. I decided to get 5 smaller ones (16x16). They're the perfect size! And while one or two are in the laundry, there are still more available.

Thank you so much for the recommendation and link!

And special shout out and hello to Enduring!
