Diamond cabinets

I debated between buying Diamond cabinets and going custom - for just a little more. Ever since seeing the Diamond cabinets installed I've regretted my decision. One of the cabinets was manufactured backwards and it would have taken 2 weeks to get a replacement so we had to go with it. The tilt-out drawers were shipped separately and no one knew and now that the counter tops are on, they are impossible to install. The quality of the cabinets is really, really cheap and there are large gaps between modules. Nothing is aligned and the kitchen designer did a really bad job of ordering cabinets for the size of the appliances. These cabinets will not last and I regret my decision to buy them.

FYI...the tilt out trays sometimes don't work well with undermount sinks...so consider that before you install them.

Where was your installer and the store from whom you purchased the cabinets, in this? You should have waited the two weeks and gotten it right.

Two weeks? You couldn't wait two weeks? We waited two months for mistake replacements. There was no way I wasn't going to hold the cab company accountable. Not for the $$$$ spent.

Our KD, and an exec from the company came to the house to see the problems for themselves. The exec held the company accountable, and ordered replacements. All ended well. I'm glad we stuck out the delay.

Otherwise, the quality of our Tedd Wood cabs is excellent. Sorry to hear that's not the case with your Diamond cabs.

Btw, our tilt out draw was delivered with the cabinets. Why did your contractor not suggest delaying delivery of the counters, so he could install the draw when it arrived? We wound up delaying our soapstone delivery, though for a different reason. Wouldn't it have been worth the wait, to get the results you dreamed of, and paid for?

Or you bought partial overlay doors instead of full overlay doors. I've never had any issues with Diamond, but they do have two different quality levels, like a lot of lines. If you bought the lower featured line, you should have different expectations for it than the full featured line, because it's NOT the some.

I should have added, my DH and I did the install, and were particularly about details.

Sorry to hear. I have had Diamond cabinets in my home for 17 years and they still look and work like new. I have the higher grade of Diamond, but am still amazed at how they have held up.

@Sophie Wheeler Is the Diamond Reflections line at Lowes a lower tier line? What about their SW custom paint Intrigue line? Thanks, I'm trying to compare between Diamond and Schuler/Medallion!

My Diamond cabinets were installed in October. I love them! There were a few problems with doors being uneven and they were ordered and replaced quickly. My installer was meticulous. I would buy them again.

obxharry, yes - I purchased the plywood construction version of Diamond cabinets. I am still amazed at how great they look. I glazed the cabinetry myself about 4 years ago and added a custom piece over the main sink. I would suspect anyone that walked in the kitchen would think they were new cabinets. The finish prior to me glazing looked new. 17 year old Diamond Cabinets

In response to the comments - not everyone is able to wait two weeks and my situation was such that I needed to move into a completed house on deadline. The cabinet company rep and the KD did come out to look at the cabinets and didn't see anything wrong with them, telling me that the gaps between cabinet boxes are standard for modular units. Now I'm dealing with gaps between the different sections of drawers and doors, trying to fill them with white caulk so that they don't look so poorly put together and - face it - cheap (which they weren't). This also wasn't an installation problem. As to the tilt-out drawers, the contractor wasn't aware that I had ordered them until I asked about it during a visit to the project. Given that I lived over 400 miles from the project during construction, there was no way he could know that I had ordered tilt-outs and no way for me to know they hadn't been sent with the shipment. I fault the company for the problems - gaps between sections of doors and drawers is really a quality control issue.

or Hinge adjusting is all that's necessary. What do you mean by gaps? Gaps between doors and frame? Or gaps in the wood joints?

Please post some photos. I'm having trouble envisioning your concerns.

We are installing Diamond Prelude as I write this and so far they look and feel great! But the tall pantry came with an additional piece that goes on the bottom. Anyone have any advise on how to install? No directions for install included would be my only complaint so far. Thanks for any advice on pantry.

PIctures? Tough to tell what the "additional piece that goes on the bottom." may truly be.

All tall cabinets are shipped with the toe kick platform separate, so you can actually stand them up in the room. If you cannot figure that out, you have zero business doing any kind of cabinet installation. Installing cabinets is a heck of a lot more than attaching boxes to a wall. That wall isn't straight, and cabinets have 6 sides that have to be straight. If you need "directions" you need to hire a Pro. You can't possibly own enough tools, and you don't have the skills needed. A great installer can take 10K worth of cabinets and make them look like 100K installed. A bad installer can butcher 100K worth of cabinets until they look like a "before" shot with gaps and moving cabinets everywhere.

    Do. Not. Ruin. Your. Investment.

Hite a Professional cabinet installer. They are different fellow than a carpenter. And they command a premium. For a reason.

Is it the base for the cabinet to set on? My tall cabinet (also Diamond) sits on a base. When the cabinet is installed on top, it creates an indented base (toe kick). With the door of my tall cabinet open, it measures about 3 inches from the front of the cabinet to the base. On the right side, it measures about 1/2 inch. The left side of the base butts against another cabinet.
