I buy many of mine at the local farmer's co-op, they are sold by the "scoop" instead of a few in an envelope, and for a fraction of the cost I can get them on-line or from big box stores. A "scoop" is about 1/8 of a cup, and is 90 cents, no matter what type of seed. So, I get more for my money buying carrot seeds than I do buying butternut squash seeds, but when I opened a package of fancy pumpkin seeds that were given to me last year, and there were five seeds and the package said $2.95, I realized I was still getting a deal at the co-op.

I do save many of my own seeds and start my own transplants for things like tomatoes. This year's "experiment" will be peppers to grind my own paprika, we'll see how that goes.

I wonder what a paprika type pepper even tastes like raw, or cooked for that matter, and not dehydrated and made into paprika....

Annie, some of the seed catalog descriptions say paprika peppers are also good for fresh and cooking. I think I put some of mine into hot sauces. I grew two kinds of Aleppo peppers but neither have the fruity flavor of the store bought Aleppo pepper (actually hallaby) that I was trying to duplicate. Good luck with your peppers.
