I, personally, like the idea of a few large plants - but I'm not keen on the one you have (don't get rid of it, of course - just move it elsewhere). If you don't mind a lot of maintenance, a large, show-case type fish tank on the right hand side would be relaxing - with 2 or three show-case plants on the left hand side. Chandelier looks too 'dining room' like for this room -- I'd replace that with something that really draws your eye. Rug, fireplace, tv, and furnishing look nice in this space.

Lamps, either floor or table, at the end of the sofas near the fireplace. For the walls flanking the fireplace--They would be perfect for some amazing art, book cases, and so forth. While the chandelier is pretty, there are times when having only lamps on will soften the room.

A fish tank isn't practical with my three children. I live the idea of builtins but am not ready to commit. So in the meantime, what would you put on the wall? Art? What kind? Art and furniture? What kind of lamps? Where? What sort of end tables?

First, you need to align your furniture with the fireplace. Two chairs need to get even and squared--not off to one side. Same with the sofas, they also seem to be off to the right.

Look for some gold end tables that aren't repeating the same theme of weathered wood. Your room is fabulous with the wood but no need to add more of the same. Something like this end table would blend nicely with your other furniture.

You need lamps. Floor and table. Many different ways to go as far as style.

Love your rug don't get rid of it.

I don't see any art in your room. No room is complete without it.

You could add a large (as in huge) art to the right of the fireplace. This has a bench but a console table would also work in your space.

Art work and a larger rug. The neutral works unless you want more color.

After you remove the chandelier, this very large Matisse is all you need on that wall.

I agree a larger rug would be better. Have you tried turning rug to go side to side? May look more proportional. Pretty room!

Art on one or both walls would be nice. I would keep the round wooden table, but make the end tables metal and glass. Something along these lines:

A few suggestions for your space:

The chandelier does not bother me at all. I like picking up black somewhere else in a room where there is a black TV screen and fire screen. The rug adds nice texture, and I like it for your room, although it could be a bit larger. If it were me, I would probably use the rug and focus on other things for now. A big bold painting brings serious flair, and can instantly change the vibe of any space. Whether hung above a fireplace or sofa, or elsewhere in the room, a painting can create a focal point with impact and add both color and dimension.

Pick up a few of its colors in accessories, like pillows, to highlight the piece even more.

Gorgeous room. Something seems a little off with the round end table. I think it needs to be white. I might suggest one or two animal print pillows and a less ornate chandelier. Very minor tweaks. Again a gorgeous room.

If you don't need more furniture items at the sides of the fireplace i think art would be awesome, something in a thin black frame to tie in the Chandy...what type of art do you like...abstract etc?

I think the rug is too small but could wait till last but stay with neutral.

i think the table between the two chairs should move to somewhere else, i'd use a similar size table in acrylic to tie in the Chandy too.

just my opnion but i think the plant is root bound, when was the last time you repotted it? (Not meant as a dig or insult honest)
