agree, a lighter (cohesive) backsplash and under counter lighting could well be all you need to feel refreshed.

you might remove your above cabinet decor, since you say you wish to update. a cleaner look is more whats in style now. take it down, see if you really miss it. you can always put it back up.

You have alot of great features in the kitchen already. Two different backsplashes do not look correct. You need to change the backsplash behind the stove to match the darker backsplash. The darker one is a great contrast. I would not paint your cabinets, they look very nice. Add dark oil rubbed bronze or a dark finish hardware. Change the light fixtures in the kitchen. If you need more light be sure you have under the counter lighting and good overhead lighting to show off that great kitchen!Best wishes!

I need to take a picture of the brown tile. My husband installed it and it's not the best tile work. So walls a different color and new hardware for cabinet doors. Is pendant lighting out? What would you recommend?

Don't paint the cabinets! I absolutely love the countertop, so go with a simple tumbled marble backsplash or tan ceramic subway tile to keep the counters the feature. Do change the wall color, but don't choose something extravagant. For cabinet hardware, go for a oil-rubbed bronze pull or knob.

I like my simple cream subway tile - just is subtly pretty instead of adding to the movement, which helps keep the look simple.

I think if you did a pendant light over the sink in a nice glass globe or something like these:

and switched out your backsplash for a lighter stone or even glass. this is a tumbled travertine (I tried to find one that mimics your kitchen cabs and stone color)

they have these in subway tiles that are pretty easy to tile yourself.

then do some different hardware, as was mentioned, and perhaps a different wall color. simple fixes, new kitchen!

I agree with a lighter backsplash, such as the very lightest color from the granite. Keep the pattern in the backsplash simple since there's enough in the granite. Also agree with editing what's above the cabinets. More is less. You really don't have that much to update!

Here's a update to what I have done so far. I've painted the walls a light cream with a hue of gray. Changed the hardware on the cabinets and the light fixture above the sink. I also removed all the clutter above the cabinets. So far loving the changes. Thank you all for her help!!
