Remodel of Lake Cottage-Need an Advice Team with Farmhouse/Ind. Style!

When we decided to purchase this lake home, I knew EXACTLY what I wanted it to look like, and it seemed easy enough! We weren't doing all that much! HAHAHA! ...... SURE! You know the children's book about giving a mouse a cookie?

Oh my LORD... (*smacks forehead) What was going to be removing popcorn, paint, carpet, a new counter top and maybe a banister overhaul has spun completely out of control- like Lucy and the chocolates on the conveyor belt. We took the kitchen, the master bath, the downstairs bath, the laundry room, and part of the downstairs family room down to the studs, ripped up all the floors to the subfloor, gutted the Jack and Jill bath, moved walls around, etc. There basically isn't anything original left except for the windows and the lonely little light fixture on the Jill side of the Jack and Jill bedrooms. Oh! And the fireplace is intact. (For now...this could change tomorrow... hahaha)

I'm getting WAY behind and my contractor is ready for decisions...and I don't have them. (LMAO) Example- today I sat down at the computer at 11:00 am. It's closing in on 9:30 pm and I only ordered ONE thing...... ONE!!!! I have been sitting on the computer ALL DAY. I just feel like every time I find what I'm looking for there's a problem: Found kitchen pendants that will work. (cord isn't long enough) Found a vanity for the bath downstairs. (out of stock) FINALLY found a ceiling fan I like. (I'm not trying to cool off the entire neighborhood or buy a jumbo jet propeller, doesn't that thing come in a smaller size???!!!!) My computer currently has 68 tabs open. HAHAHA.

Has anyone else lived this same nightmare?? Don't get me wrong, I'm SO grateful we are able to do all this!!! But my twin boys are scanning the lawn for a stray mushroom to pop up in the yard in hopes of eating, and the dog is probably going to eat one of the boys. Thankfully they are out of school this week because I'm pretty sure they've been in the same clothes for the past three days. Might be four.

So.... to any veteran remodelers out there... how did you survive? What did you do when you literally couldn't find what you were after? I wish I had Joanna Gaines at my side telling me EXACTLY where I could find what I was looking for and when I couldn't make a decision she would just point and say "THAT ONE! DONE! NEXT!" I'm running out of time and my contractor is running out of patience with me. And can we also just talk about how I cannot listen to the big "I TOLD YOU SO" from the hubs? I have to catch up before he becomes hip to my scam. HAHAHAHA

Any advice y'all have would be so welcome. And even if no one is out there can I just tell you how great that felt to stop looking at lighting and sinks for 10 minutes?!?!?!?!

Thanks Everyone!!!!

Do you have an architect? If not, you may need one. Do you (or did you) have a style in mind for the lake house? Where is the house? NW, NE, South, etc? Geography can help you nail a look.

I've been down this road, but with many voices chiming in, so be grateful you are the only one having to make decisions. Having 10 other opinions is bad.

Are you doing this up or is this more of a Lowe's reno? Custom chandelier in great room or just looking at Overstock for what you can find?

We did/are doing most all interior work ourselves/ We are taking our time as far as some things are concerned. Meaning bare bulbs in ceilings, plywood for countertops, unfurnished rooms, and more. Flushing toilets, running water, electricity were the basics.

You don't have to do everything at once. And it can/should take years for it to be what you and your family love.

Thanks Holly! I can't imagine 10 opinions! HAHA At this point we are past the architect stage- but it's choosing everything beyond the bones right now. And unfortunately because we aren't living there, (it's 3 hours away) we can't really do any of the work ourselves. Oh! And....uh..... we aren't really that capable with power tools. We could probably do some basic things, but we don't trust ourselves. HAHA. So.... that's why we have the contractor and he isn't really set up to piece-meal the project as we go.

As for style, I've always been a fan of antiques and it just so happens that the retro/Industrial/Farmhouse look is popular at the moment. I love just about anything early 20th century- I could wander antique stores for days. I'm doing some hex tiles, schoolhouse lighting, industrial pipe, shiplap, etc. Hoping it won't come off too cliched and I can keep it from being too pigeonholed with some of the sprinklings of antiques I've found. I just want it to be a comfortable, cozy place that feels like an old cottage. I've located some things available online, but found someone on Etsy to make the bath vanity, and I think I've found someone else to make the kitchen pendant lights. The problem with that is the time it takes to communicate back and forth and then praying you love it since you obviously can't return it!!

Do you have any good resources to look for light and plumbing fixtures beyond the usual Wayfair, Overstock, Home Depot, Lowes, Barn Light Electric, Houzz, etc. ?

Sounds like it will take you a while to fully decorate. I know the urge of getting it done, but don't rush. You'll be happier. Hit estate sales in your area too for bargains on rugs and brown furniture. Ebay is a good source for lighting. Do you have a Ferguson showroom in your area? They are a good resource for kitchen and bath. Also check out: Vintage Hardware, Vandykes
