Any thoughts about adding an extension to the roof line from the top of the first floor? I love the look of the privacy walls in most mcm.

I like this house.............................I agree with soburg s ideas the door need to be changed maybe a glass door and paint the stucco ..............some nice shrubberies and trees will give interest to the garden

I think the doors need to be replaced with something more of the mid century. These are more colonial looking. Have you looked at the ideabooks? I don't know how to put a pic here freom the ideabooks, but if you look in my ideabook (handymam's ideas) the very last pic is sort of what I think would look better. I also like the colors they used, grey for the upstairs part, and a green for the door. The door could be many colors, I don't thin k there is just one best color for your house.

I do think that landscaping will bring your house to life and give the vison that you see in your mind though. Again, check the ideabooks for things you can do.

I think the house is a great raw start. I love the brink. Maybe a nice light color for the top and a fresh door. Also so good landscaping (gardenia bushes, rose vines, or small trees lining the walkway) would give it a nice touch.

Marisa - this is a great house with star potential. Paint or stain the brick and siding around sidelights dark taupe, light taupe for the top half and a turquoise for front door.

You could do a MCM block screen wall, but you have a deep enough yard that the only view you would screen would be your own. Unless you want to do a porte cochere and screen cars in front, I don't think that will advance it. You can use modern horizontal wood for screen fences at the garage. Except for the sidelights, the windows are fabulous - there, someone went traditional / cottage, but that is not hard to change out.

You would advance the look a lot with a new front door and sidelights a la crestview door. This house would do well with double modern doors in a bright color. See this http://www.crestviewdoors.com/order/crestview-doors-and-entry-systems.html and imagine a pair of "carlysle" - or if you keep the sidelights they have light kits. Look at their screen panels for some things inside to carry the look throughout.

Then you just need to add modernity to the landscape - lots of architectural plants.

I know this is not popular, but I prefer houses that are one color. So I would consider painting the brick also, but all one color and then add the knew doors that would make it pop. I like grays and light blues.

As a brick manufacturer, we love the look of natural brick and its durability. However, if you do decide to paint the brick, please be prepared for increased maintenance. According to The Brick Industry Association, “Most paint authorities agree that, once painted, exterior masonry will require repainting every three to five years.”

Marisa, not sure what you meant about "extending the roof line" in your early post. This home is a great example of "Modern Ranch" style. I think on another thread someone called it "Brady Bunch" modern! If you are too young to know what that means, I am sorry for the obscure reference! You might visit some houzz photos and post some that you like to get our wheels turning!!

I agree Kevin. To change the roofline to something higher would change this to a colonial style house. I am definitely old enough to remember Marcia, Marcia, Marcia!

handymam, yes, I'm not sure what the roofline change she was suggesting. But "keep it simple" on this one! Also, it could go either way: Traditional Country Colonial or Modern Ranch. Sounds like the direction is more modern? And yes, Brady Bunch!! The father was an architect in that show!

Wow! Are you kidding me with this house! What a gem! Fabulous front doors! Keep the brick! Paint the second story a simple, clean taupe color and add nice, natural wood shutters to the windows. For a great contrast, you could keep the doors white, or paint them a muted blue or yellow. I have a teal door (from when I bought my home) and I get so many compliments on it.
It's a lovely home! I would do wonders with this property!

Marisa - it is possible to use the cantilever and put wall mount supports for a horizontal trellis right under the bump out, then add linear wood in a very modern fashion level with the "roofline" it creates along the entry front - it sort of "extends" this mid line / visually emphasizes the line and provide some modern punch / sense of more enclosure at the front door. Like this idea but [houzz=] instead of the top element being perpendicular to the house, see something evenly spaced parallel to the house.
