what i find more odd is the draining dirty waste water into the ground.. maybe the soil you're polluting is the reason you can't grow them, so they prefer to grow where there is no soil.

It is possible to grow tomatoes hydroponically, so that's what it's probably doing.

Just wanted to add for any future readers, many plants LOVE old drain water and soapy run off. The grass grows best in my yard where the washing machine dumps it's water.

Maybe if one can't grow tomatoes any other way; might be worth trying a four foot raised bed with rock as the growing medium. I wonder if there's a complicated steady routine needed. Not too much hot water, not too much bleach. A load everyday for the water. What soap is best....In your opinion. Just kiding!

Lol, would make a great kid's science experiment. Maybe I'll have my oldest do that next year.

Somewhere I have a picture taken up in Canada on a fishing lake. There's a huge slab of rock that's on a point. Growing up from the middle of the rock is a pine tree.. Trunk is maybe 5 inches in diameter. Been there a while. Happy hanging out there with a nice view with it's roots wrapped firmly around its rock.
