Cedar beams in new house

I need help! We have rough sawn cedar beams in our new house. I want to stain them to take some of the red out, but not lose the natural look of cedar completely. The stains I've tried have made the cedar look black or dark brown.

I really like them unstained, but I agree, it depends a lot on what else you will be doing with the space (wall color, trim color, decor style, furniture, etc)

Take some time to let the change sink in. What are you doing on the walls and floors those choices can effect the look too?

We actually ended up doing a wood tile since we have large dogs. My wall colors are anew gray by SW. I love the natural look, I just think it won't go with my wall colors and kitchen.

These were the minwax stains I tried today and they are way too dark!

I like them as is. I don't think they should be matchy-matchy with everything else. Otherwise, why not just paint them if that's what you want?

Patty did you find a solution? We thought we’d picked a nice medium stain but showed up and our beams look black, I hate them. Wondering how to fix...
