Help Deciding on a Light Fixture for a Stair Case Entry

We honestly don't know where to start, at this moment, we have nothing above our stair case, what kind of light fixture will go well with a dark brown and white stair case?

Also, any suggestions for this boring huge wall leading upstairs?

Hi Bliss, thank you very much for the recommendation. We went to a lighting store but were overwhelmed by the choice. How do we choice the proper light fixture that goes well with the dark and white stair case? The light currently is centred, so I will have to hang it using a chain to place it over the stair case perfectly.

    Perhaps any other suggestions?

Based on your color choices and the style of your banister, I would recommend a lighting fixture that is simple and modern. But there is really nothing in the black and white scheme which demands a modern look. What is your furniture ?There are thousands of designs out there and you should spend some time looking on line to see what appeals to you and then if you cannot make a decision post some of your favorites and we can give our opinions.

I love the the crown molding recommendation, that would make a big difference. As for the lighting, what style is the rest of your home? Here are some pics of fixtures that would look great depending on the style of the home, from modern to transitional.

    Hope that helps! Good luck

A modern Chandelier like the ones above to add some interest into the area.

I would go with chrome mounting and get something with glass pendants that will sparkle or even frosted glass to give a softer glow and as I recommended above long like 3 or 4 feet. Most of thebulbs shuld be near the top so you're not blinded as you go up the stairs.
I think gold would look nice as well as a base color depending on your furniture style.
Stay away from brushed stainless or nickel it's too industrial.

Bliss, I really like the idea of gold or chrome, should it be 3-4ft hanging from the ceiling? When it comes to crown moldings, should they be around that space?

Sorry for the late response yeah I would definitely go long
If you are unsure about the length do a cardboard cutout spraypaint it and make sure its not too overbearing for the space, remembering that it will be airier and lighter when its an actual light
Crown molding adds elegance to any space, it ballances the weight of the room higher visually. This lifts your mood as well, think Cathedral, it's the psychology of architecture.
