I just brought my stored tubers up from the cool dark basement
and nothing made it. The largest one is a “maybe.” I grew Colocasia Escuelenta in
the ground for the first time last year, having only grown it in a pot before. I
went to a lot of trouble digging, cleaning off (holy cow! That was hard) and
dividing, only to have them shrivel up in storage. So it looks like I should plan
on buying new each year. The caladiums didn’t make it either. Tuberous begonias
so far are the only tuber / corm I have luck storing.

I really loved how dramatic this looked, leaping up from
amid the hostas. I needed some height in that spot, and it really served the
purpose. I know the common Colocasia Escuelenta is readily available in stores.
So that’s easy to replace.

But if I wanted something more exotic looking, but not too
expensive (considering I can’t keep it over), could you recommend a variety and
a source?

Purple or a darker color would be a plus. So far, I have
bought Black Magic at least 3 times, and it did not grow much for me. Like 1 or
2 leaves. Alocasias fine too…have not grown those myself, just seen them in botanic
gardens.

It doesn’t need to be very tall. At 5 feet, it would be
hitting an overhanging tree branch.
