You could coat the brick with black gel stain it it not in he buget to tile over it with a porcelain tile. Did you recently paint the accent wall? The fire place gets lost with the burgundy color surrounding it. Is burgundy the only accent in this room?

I would definitely paint the wall a lighter color. The burgandy surrounding the fireplace is causing the brick color to look bad. Your wall could be painted a medium gray or a sage green. The mantel really is very pretty...I wouldn't stain the wood especially darker. The whole wall is so dark now that adding more darkness isn't going to fix it. Go lighter on your wall. Show off that mantel.

Thanks for the feedback. I just painted and the other walls and the rest of the house is BM Revere Pewter (grey). I painted the accent wall this cranberry color and like the contrast with the grey, but didn't like how it made the fireplace/mantel look. Maybe whitewash the brick and a white mantel or lose the cranberry?

Do you have the cranberry anywhere else in the room? When you make a statement like that, the color should be repeated three times in a room to harmonize it. ( Pillows, window treatments, area rugs, etc.) I can't what else you have in the room for color.

Take a look at this room where they have revere pewter on the wall and they used pillows and art to bring in multiple colors or reds/oranges. A picture of the rest of your room would be helpful and also what color is your furniture Look at the picture middle left side.

paint the wall behind it a different color and it would probably be all that you needed to do. I personally love the mix and match of different natural elements with brick, wood and stone. If it still isn't what you want, try to paint the wood and put an aged glaze over the top.

Better pics at daytime. There are 4 windows and lots of light. You can see my dark leather furniture. Feel the need to tie all the different woods together somehow.

Lose the cranberry. Your wood is being sabotaged by the paint. All woods don't need to be tied together. You do need to not keep that wall--it's not doing what you hoped it would do. Sorry but I think cranberry is the problem not the fireplace. Your TV stand looks almost like the exact same wood tones as the fireplace mantle. One thing I think would make your room come together is a large piece of art on the light colored wall on the left of the fireplace.

I like the colour of the brick, but not the wall colour nor the wood. I would suggest you paint the mantel the same as the trim throughout the house and paint the wall the same as the rest of the room. Then I would push the TV stand up against the wall it is near and paint it white like the trim too. Squaring the sofa opposite the fireplace will give it a more contemporary feel, and then inject some bigger fluffier pillows in colours you love. A white large tray on the ottoman will help for placing drinks. An extra large lamp in an interesting shape like this would really look great in place of the smaller one you have now.
