love the cabinet,tv does not fit. need to fix family pics some - sorry. lets have the couch face the tv. and have love seat stay where it is. a couple new end tables and an ottoman. more lamps, maybe a couple more pillows. and window coverings and rug?

The room is not very welcoming, because the 2 sofas seem so disconnected from each other. You need something to make them seem like one conversational unit. A rug would work on a hard floor, but I don't recommend it on your carpet. A good-size coffee table would help. Or, turn them in an L shape as suggested by havingfun. And, that way, the people seated on the sofa have a better view of the TV too.

The TV wall is the longest wall in the room, and also the tallest. Probably the biggest wall in your home. Yet, it has a collection of too-small items, including the TV and stand. The wall needs furniture and art that are large enough to look proportional on the wall, and aren't dwarfed by the sofas in the room.

My suggestion would be a significantly long stand that takes up much of the wall. Triple the width of the current TV stand. The TV would go on one side, and a single large piece of art above it on the other. Your small photo and decor items are more suitable for a smaller walls.

Drapes would finish the room nicely.

This is a modern style, but I am showing you just so you get an idea of what I mean by the wider proportion for the TV console. This room has a smaller TV too like yours but it looks fine as part of a wide arrangement. Imagine this room without the coffee table and with a small TV console, and it wouldn't look as good.

Thanks for the comments! When looking at the pictures, it does seem the tv cabinet is too small. I can look for a larger one that fits the space better.

In regards to furniture movement (specificall the couches)....what would you move where? And should I add the matching chair back into the mix???

I wouldn't add the chair back into the mix. The room will feel crowded. f you prefer the chair, remove the love seat.

Move
the sofa across from the TV and the love seat in an L shape to it. Try
the love seat on either side (in front of window or in front of railing)
and see which way works best with traffic flow. It's hard for us to
tell from photos how the room will work.

When you look for TV
cabinets, look for really long ones so that the TV + wall art "reads" as
one unit. 6 feet is not too long, given the size of the wall.

Here's
an interesting article by someone who created a long wall-hung credenza
using a row of kitchen upper cabinets, topped with a fancy wood. His is
modern, but any style would work.

It would be fantastic to see a new TV console with the couch facing the TV. Try a layout similar to the one below (replacing two chairs with another one of you couches).

Great suggestions!!! What are your thoughts on moving the longer couch to where the tv cabinet is?? Leaving the shorter couch and moving the tv stand to the corner so you can sit on the long couch and look directly at the tv?

Not sure what you mean. Put the longer couch on the wall facing the kitchen, with the shorter couch where it is facing the window? Not sure what corner you are talking about - doesn't this room open to the kitchen?

The long couch on the gallery wall facing the kitchen and keep the short couch where it is. The tv and tv cabinet can fit at an angle in the little corner that is off to the right of the opening to the kitchen (there is about a 2.5 feet wall there that you can't see in the pics).

we think the only missing element would be a coffee table to structure the space around the sofas area.

We would also remove or put the side table the other side of the sofa, close to the wall.

That sounds good. Can you move things and send us new pictures of all the walls? Stand in each corner and get the opposite corner. Not too much ceiling. We'd love to keep working with you to finish the room.

If you add a coffee table, which I think is a good idea, that may be enough to define that seating area, now that you have an L shape. You may want to re-think the rug, since rug-on-rug does not always work well.

Are you planning to re-hang the pictures now that you have reorganized? Do you have any other wall art or other decor items or furniture, that is elsewhere in the house?

Your room might look more finished if you had drapes. Real drapes that actually close.

Drapes need to be at least 2x the width of the windows. So 90" wide windows need 180" of drapery panels.

Then you'd need 2 sets of 2 panels=total 4 panels. Around $100.

I like this arrangement better than your previous one. I don't think the drapes necessarily need to match, but since they are seen together you can't ignore the dining room ones. If you don't want to match, choose some with a similar color.

I agree with StephE, the first arrangement was a lot better than the current one. Your living space needs a focal point, and this new arrangement takes away the focal point. Also, it was a lot more inviting. No matter what arrangement - that TV stand is too small.

1. Add to the gallery wall to fill the space that was where the tv sat

2. Add a coffee table--maybe something square?

3. Add curtains/drapes

This is what I would love to talk my husband into (but in all likelihood won't happen):

1. New end tables,

I think you've been led astray here, and much better arrangements are available, even using your current furniture. Shouldn't have everything hugging the walls!

I'd put the two couches on window wall (smaller one) and with back to dining table (larger one). TV back on original wall, with longer console underneath and little or no art around it. Add matching armchair on right by doorway, facing the others for conversation. End table at the corner where the couches meet, with a lamp on it. Coffee table in front of main couch (the one facing the TV). Get some blue in there via lamp, bowl on table, etc., as I agree that the usual area rug to define a conversational grouping will be odd here.

I think you'll like this arrangement better both visually (enclosing a cozy space) and functionally (actually making the TV watchable). Once you've got all that in place, post some new photos and we can advise on possible art placements for that large wall, etc. Will probably want another large end table in the corner by the windows, or maybe a floor lamp and/or plant there. Small round table and lamp for the arm chair on other side, much as in original pic...

If I had to pick between (1) the L shape arrangement, and (2) the sofas-facing arrangement but with a longer TV credenza, I would take the sofas-facing, definitely. I agree that the TV stand is too small. But I was under the impression that replacing the TV stand was not going to happen. And with that small TV stand as a given, the first arrangement is better.

Not getting rid of it, but happy to move it elsewhere. So I think a longer console can still be part of the picture.

there are reasonable priced consoles
