Hi Home Interiors W/Ease, I just purchased a new Ralph Lauren Bedding Set...decided to inject a bit more life. Here is a photo. This gives me many more options. One thing though, my Mom really loves her dresser so I am thinking about having it professionally painted to get rid of the oak. I doubt that I will use white sheets as depicted in this photo. I could go with mustard yellow, turquoise, green, coral, blue...there are quite a few hues in the comforter set. This will be a spring/summer look only.

Hi Everyone, there are four, large walls in this room. How many should I feature with artwork? Thanks so much.

A big bold painting brings serious flair, and can instantly change the vibe of any space. Whether hung above a bed, sofa or elsewhere in the room, a painting can create a focal point with impact and add both color and dimension.

For large artwork, select your most visible wall for that work. The other walls might get other treatments such as metal sculptures, or textiles, but you don't want to line each wall with art. Then you look like a gallery. So mix it up. But keep the one large piece the focal point. Everything else should be "supporting".

Yes, that is the coral color I had in mind. The one in the lamp you posted. I think the new bedding is also much more cherry for this room. Brings a smile to my face! Chalk paint for the dresser would be easy. You could do that in the coral too or turquoise! That might make your mom nervous though. Just depends on how open she is to changes. I think I would involve her in that decision.

She agreed to give up the dresser! Hooray! All of the drawers in the night stands are empty so she can begin using those instead. The bedding arrives from Horchow this Thursday so I'll start loading things in over the weekend. I'll be sure to post pictures throughout.

Sounds great, and I'm so glad you involved her and it is the right result too! Win/Win!!

btw, that is a great dresser and I could see it in a baby's room done in a lime green or some such great color? Any grandbabies you need to take care of! lol

Is the chair and ottoman going to coordinate with that bedding? The bedding looks like it has a very bright white background and the chair looks more warm tan/gold tone print...again hard to tell from the image.

I am holding my breath on that, HIWE! I will likely fold the comforter as shown in the picture and use the existing silk quilt as the star. Then some accent pillows in turquoise. I did see the comforter featured on a bed that was similar in color to the chair fabric. The overhead lighting in there is so ineffective it's difficult to judge. Horchow has a hassle free return policy for Incircle Members.

No babies on the horizon, Flo. It's too large to take Up North (Michigan's UP). Will likely donate to my favorite charitable organization if I can bring myself to part with it entirely. This belonged to the Stanley Furniture Suite that was my eldest son's first "Big Boy Bed!"

I think the room was lovely the way it was with just a few updates...your bedding, chair and ottoman look great...new lamps in a gray.....new chandelier...new art for sure and remove dresser....I really think that bedding is going to make you have to change everything:(

Thank you for your input! Again:)! That chair cost a bit of a fortune so if the bedding does not play nicely...back it goes:)! The problem is the quality of the existing new bedding. I ordered it from Macy's, and as a "Fabricaholic"...I cannot stand it! I do not enjoy poor quality fabric. I have thought about deconstructing the comforter top, rescuing the adorable quilt panel, and re-doing it with a much nicer fabric. Too much trouble methinks. I also have an Eastern Accents set for this room but it is winter weight. Soooo, the bed, night stands, and chair are non-negotiable...all else can change.

Well if that one doesn't work out this is one of my favorite duvets from William Sanoma Home and is now on clearance...I think this would look great with your chair and bed frame...add gray and soft teals

Hi HIWE! I found one of the gray double gourd lamps at Pier 1! It is fabulous and very affordable. I decided to stick with the existing bedding after all because it looks wonderful with the new lamps. I'll order the other online. Tomorrow we'll move

the dresser into our storage room. I am trying to find the artwork in stock here in town so that I can see it in person. Were you thinking it would go best above the headboard? I do love that PB duvet and think that it might work in another room. Many thanks!

That is wonderful news! I know!!!.....that lamp from Pier one is great...I have used it in many makeovers...great price too!

You could do one of the larger pieces of art to replace what you have on that window wall...remember to hang it so the middle is 60" from the floor.

I would do 2 small pieces of art over each nightstand layered behind the lamps..I think it will look really nice.

I know this might sound crazy but I would flip flop the nightstands so the wider one is next to window and smaller to the left...I think you will have enough room once dresser is out and chair is turned...that way it won't looked pushed so close to window...and much easier to make the bed:))

talk soon:)) can't wait to see the lamps!!

I might order the Pottery Barn bedding too! It is gorgeous I like to change out my duvet.... winter...,,,summer so I think it will be perfect!

Just ordered the matching lamp. The existing artwork actually looks better with the new lamp. I am thinking of painting the gold frame a gunmetal grey...nothing too shiny! We will hang it higher and more centered. I have a custom made wrought iron Fleur de lis that could go over the headboard...also have a huge, round (flat) basket that could go there as well. I have a breakfast meeting first thing tomorrow then home to start switching things around. I will definitely move the night stands and take pictures so that you can see how they look. Cannot wait till tomorrow.

@Homeinteriorswithease: we are definitely simpatico!I took this screenshot on Sunday...The dresser is out of the room. Turns out my son wanted his furniture back so it is now headed towards his room.

@Homeinteriorswithease and @Flo Mangan: thank you H.I.W.E. for calling Mom's Room a "Super Cute Space" and Flo for encouraging me to "Trust My Gut!" Here is where I am now and I would love to move into this room myself!!!

This fixture has yet to be purchased .

Once again, a special thank you to you both and to all who were kind enough to offer suggestions!

Remember you only have 24" total for a ceiling light and chain......and you need at least 8-10" of that for chain....so that light you posted should only be 14"-16" in height...or it will hang to low....

    Everything looks amazing!

    That Wall Art is perfect!!

The addition of the mustard and teal are so wonderful...your Mom and your guests will love being in that space!!!:))

The lamps need to be closer to the bed not on the far ends of the nightstands. You need to reach from the bed by just reaching up. Nite-nite.

I know. I plan to move the starbursts over and reposition the lamps. I was just re-using hanging Hardware that was already there:).

If I were Grandma, I would appreciate a good adjustable (3-way) lamp near the easy chair. I read, so I need light. A smaller dresser would give me more space to move around, but if I am up and dressed, I want to be with my child and my grandchildren.

@felizlady:We are all passionate readers:). Mom goes through several books each week. She was an English Teacher/University Administrator. I have three floor lamps and have to decide which one best serves. Am also very open to suggestion on style here. I will be working on the room some more this weekend.

I know my mom would be more content for longer when she visits us if she had a place to go to do her crosswords everyday without small kids 'helping'! Being able to get away even if you don't take advantage of that ability lifts a bit of kid-overload ;)

Our youngest is now 17 but my Mom has definitely had years of the little ones "helping" as well. She is a REALLY early riser, 4:30-5:00am, so the reading chair is her favorite spot until the rest of the household catches up with her. I ended up visiting my son at college this weekend so no time to decorate. The ceiling fixture arrived and I am now mulling over what to place on her chair side table. I plan to remove the table lamp as it looks out of scale to me. I'll replace that with a floor lamp.

I like the idea of a floor lamp by Mom's chair and a smaller table. Just big enough for a cup of coffee and a book, round would be best.

I will swing by there tomorrow after I return the pedestal table to Homegoods. Thank you!

Well here goes... almost done (though the jury is still out on the floor lamp). I ended up just replacing the ceiling fan as Mom enjoys the circulation. The wicker table is a "Shop what you own:)" item that has been looking for a home within our home for months. The center bed pillow was a real "Coup." I picked it up at Homegoods for a song only to discover that it's mate would cost me around $650!!! So, it will remain single.

Thank you for all of your input and supportive comments.
