Thing about a big pantry, and keeping it stocked up in case you are snowed in. Think about a generator for snowed in as well. Think about a water pump that can access the creek in case of fire and that can be powered by that generator. Think about damming that creek for a good sized pond, closer to the house if possible. Remember that most older rural homes are right next to the main roads for a reason. The cost of bringing utilities and a driveway far into a property can be on the spendy side.

Know that "bless your heart" is not a well wish. It's their way of saying that someone is just so dadblamed empty upstairs, or pigheaded, that they need all of the help that the good creator can bestow! Know that in 30 years, you'll still be "the Yankees on the hill". Even if they like you. If they don't like you, you're the "dam Yankee on the hill." Know that if you help out anyone in need, you never discuss it. You just show up and mow their grass or bring them a casserole when their wife is in the hospital. Casseroles are the universal language of caring. And they will do the same for you when your turn comes. To be a good citizen doesn't mean a lot of chitchat. It means being real, without citified airs.
