Kitchen nook?

I hope you can visualize. We are having new cabinets installed that will come out from the cabinets in lower right of photo. They will come out to about as far as the table comes out. Also getting rid of cabinet in corner. I originally wanted a built-in nook but everyone, including the contractor have been trying to talk me out of it. One of the benches would be against the wall and the other would back against the new cabinet. Any other suggestions? We love eating breakfast and looking out the window and thinking of just one bench against the wall and 2 chairs on side facing the wall.

Will you have seating at the peninsula?

Leaving the bench off the peninsula lets you add cabinet doors on both sides, and a cabinet door in the corner, which lets you use ALL the space. And, if you have chairs or a free-standing bench, you can move them away if you want to use the peninsula for serving or for two people working opposite one another.

Your existing table and benches are charming!

We thought about extending the countertops out to create a seating area at the peninsula but like sitting by the window at the table better. We also have a kitchen island with seating for 2.

What if you dDid an L shaped bench, on the far wall and under the window? You could push the table up against it most of the time, but it could be useful for extra seating, little kids kneeling on one end to work on the counter, plants (herb garden?!) or for your pet lol. And remember to make them storage seats!

What are the dimensions of the space? How wide will the space be once the peninsula is added? I'm concerned that you will not have enough space for both the peninsula and the table - regardless of the location/type of seating you have.

Could you draw up the space?

Why are you adding the peninsula? Do you need more workspace? If so, is it going to be located where it's actually usable/functional - i.e., located where it makes sense in the Kitchen workflow?

Yes, we do need more workspace and this is a natural fit for this kitchen. The dimensions are about 6' by 6 1/2'. That's from the far wall to peninsula and from the window to the doorframe. I too am thinking about a bench against the wall only, whether it's build-in or it's a freestanding settee or something along those lines. Again, the cupboard in the corner is going as is the cupboard on the top right (possibly). Thanks for the suggestions and I'm still open to more.

Better question: why is your contractor trying to talk you out of what you want?
