It definitely needs the brown strips to give the eye a place to rest. Very cheerful!

Sharon, your blocks are great. You certainly have some colorful scraps. I really like the idea of the sashing the blocks on two sides. Very nice work.

Sharon, I'm doing something similar with my scraps except I'm starting with a square and going around and around it log-cabin style with varying widths until I get out to a 15 and a half inch square. I'm doing each square in a color family (all reds, all yellows, etc.). And I'm wondering if I should sash each with some neutral strip-piecing. The only problem is I'm only coming up with 6 color families - red, yellow, orange, green, blue, purple and that doesn't make a very big project, got to figure this one out. I could make one more block of each color I guess. This is one of those "evolving" projects, who knows where it will wind up. I wanted it to be all one-of-a-kind strips and I'm getting to the point where I might have to duplicate unless I start cutting into my bigger yardage stash. Think I should??

Rita, I think when you get each block made and you lay it out, it will tell you to sash or not. If you truly don't want to duplicate, then of course cut into your yardage. If you're making this just to use up scraps, then go ahead a duplicate but not next to each other.......unless you want to. :-)

Thank you, everyone. I had fully intended to sew my blocks together, but after laying it out on the design board, just couldn't do it. With the variety of novelties, it sure made it busy.

Rita, I'm doing a similar project with squares. I wanted 12 blocks but could only come up with about 8 color families. I ended up making a light blue block and a dark blue block, and a dark green block and a light green block. I also did a black one and a brown one. I'm planning to use neutral squares for sashing and multi-color squares for a border.

Hey, I might copy that idea, Donna. Don't know if I have enough to do it though. I did make a pink block which would give me 7 but I'm thinking I need at least 9 blocks. I could do black and brown or all neutrals but I think they would stick out like a sore thumb. I do plan to do some sashing/framing with neutrals around all the blocks though. If I had a neutral with an airy open print with all the colors it would be great but those are hard to come by and I'm pretty sure I don't have any more in my stash. When I see them I snatch them up because they make wonderful borders for many-colored quilts. I have plenty of large cuts of yardage but I wanted this to be all scraps. But we don't always get what we want. (Isn't that an old Rolling Stones song, BTW?)

Yeah, Rita, I love fabrics with white background and multicolor polka dots or other small print. :)

Sharon...your top is right up my alley...love the brights! with a scrappy, our eyes wander from one fun print to another, not sure if they need to rest, but of course I say that having never made one.

And yes Rita....we don't always get want we want, but if you try sometimes, you just might get what you need....yup it's the Stones alright!

That is such a great idea. It's a nice change from string blocks which I would have done with all those strips. Like the smashing too
