John. I also have a few red Flabellate from seeds from Mr Ko . I don't know if your seedling is starting to crested but according to Mr Ko website after nine months the seedlings will be crested with some luck too. I will post my seedlings later.

...might be worth getting a petri dish to grow the bacteria in that seedling.

Cresting is not usually hereditary; it is normally caused by damage from some insect or microbe that messes up the growth.

Seeing as KO is a reputable seller, he may be selling seeds contaminated with said microbes or seeds of a line that are particularly vulnerable to infection by microbes that cause cresting.
