What sink base did you buy, a standard 24/30/36?

The Kohler Whitehaven (cast iron) and Kohler Vault (Stainless steel) both have a "short apron" style as well as a "tall apron" style. Both sinks are undermount sinks. They are both more expensive, though also more durable than a Domsjo. The "short apron" style can be installed on a standard sink base cabinet because the apron is shorter, though the sink is still deep inside. Look at the specifications to see if one might work. They are apron front sinks - a little different from a traditional farm sink in that the apron slips over the front of the cabinet and self faces itself, so an easier installation if the size is right.

Thanks jhmarie! That's a huge help. I was initially looking at this sink - https://www.jossandmain.com/Everly-Kitchen-Sink-NBT1038.html - because it's only 8" deep compared to the traditional 10" on apron front sinks. Semihandmade made two 12" doors for the cabinet base as opposed to the traditional one door for a 24" sink. Since our doors are 20" high this would give 2" of wiggle room, so we would have a small filler panel. Does that sound about right? Just don't want to buy the sink only to find out it won't work!

Matthew, our cabinet base is 24" wide x 24" deep x 30" tall.

I am not a plumber or carpenter, so have someone check the specifications and be sure if you get the Whitehaven or Vault that you get the "short apron" style.

I looked at some Ikea cabinets online because I have never seen them in real life. I did not see the same cabinet frame as traditional cabinets - which might be important for a Whitehaven or Vault. It may be something a carpenter could easily retrofit - but again, I am not a carpenter. This short video shows the installation of a Whitehaven which might help you envision how it sits on a cabinet. The video is the short apron style since it is a retrofit on a standard sink base - see how it compares to your sink base especially with regard to the front frame of the cabinet and check all your math. You want to be sure there will be no gaps around the apron.

Thanks Joe and jhmarie! Your responses are both super helpful. I did some more research and chatted with our contractor and he recommended doing the full 10" to avoid a filler piece. Annie- I have the IKEA cabinet with drawers 36" and just bought a 10" apron sink that is actually 33"x18x 10" but they recommend a 36" cabinet. I'm thinking the contractor can adjust the cabinet that is 24" to support the 18" sink. Was your sink 24"? How did it go?

Thanks for checking in! I ordered a sink that both our contractor and I thought would fit. It was a half inch too big! Eek. We ended up installing the standard IKEA sink. I would have loved to have a different one, but it’s actually been surprisingly good! Included the before - when a bunch of boys lived in this house - of the same angle. :)
