Yes, landscaping would be better than adding shutters. New windowboxes in an accent color such as dark red or the same trim paint white would be lovely.

Window boxes would look funky. You want to move your path to go straight to the door and make a curved garden bed curving out for a bigger shrub under the smaller window, narrower under the bigger window with perennials.

Another vote for no shutters (not appropriate for your style & size of windows). I would start with foundation plantings and then if budget allowed, move on to window boxes. I would also look at a bright color for the front door so people can identify it and find the entry to the house easier. Plus it adds a pop of color.

Where is the path to the door? Where is the exterior lighting? The address is difficult to see too. I'd be tempted to put a larger shrub under the smaller window to mask the lopsidedness. Do you literally have 2 concrete steps right to the door? I'd maybe try to expand the landing for functionality.

Thanks, everyone. The door you see pictured is not our formal entrance (although it's the door most everyone uses). This house sits on a corner lot & there is a porch and formal entrance on the left of this picture. There is also another address by that door that is much bigger. The steps are slate and although I like your idea of expanding it for functionality, we are going to be selling this house & I don't want to put the $$ into it. :-/ There used to be yet another door in the middle of the two windows, but we took that door out. I will try your ideas of something larger under the small window and something smaller under the big window...if I do go the window box route, you don't think it will look weird to only have one window box?

No, it won't look weird with one window box, especially if you have other plantings along that side of the house. Keep them trimmed low.

OK that makes more sense now. If you put in 2, try 3, odd numbers are often better in gardening.
