I actually think white would help pull it out of the shadows and give it more focus. Looks like the dog's also contemplating color choices in the second pic.

I agree with the first comment, white might actually be the best option.

You could try some sample boards and tape them with painters tape to the door, but the storm door blocks so much you would need a really bright color to counter that white. A bright gold color might work with your siding and stone? Very saturated gold. Not yellow, but a gold. I also would suggest you consider a white railing between the pillars and the left side of the house to "frame" the front porch better. That would help as well. Put some black house numbers on one of the pillars for additional eye attention to front door and to help emergency workers find your house.

Try SW 9019 Golden Plumeria. Or even the next deeper, SW 9020 Rayo de Sol. Something along those lines. Then in your flower pot fill it with marigolds and greenery in summer and in winter a artificial evergreen that gets decorated at the holidays!

What do you think if I lose the screen door. Which is my intention. Should I still go with white or can I go with darker. ?

The, "storm" door is the problem on lovely homes. They work well as you can open and let light in and there is a screen replacement for the storm door in summer. Living in a climate where these doors are common I gave up on them simply for aesthetics. I open more windows and just have a lovely front door with sidelights. It is a bit of a pay off when you want a screen. If you have no animals there is a screen that is almost difficult to see that you can pull right to left or opposite to close in Spring, Summer months. I do have to Brits... cats...I could not go this route.

you have a porch overhang. i would give up the storm.door. you don't need it.

Unfortunately, I do not believe any color intervention is going to help make a real "statement". This is because the door is so much set back that there is no way to create a feature focal point by means of color alone.

using a color that will also appear in the garden would be a great way to tie eveything toghter well making a bold statement.

I agree that storm doors are not always very attractive...but it is a trade off for the way we choose to live. We love to open the door, see the light, and feel the air. Also, it is insulation in the winter. I keep the storm door latched when the inside door is open....it feels more secure in case someone walks up.

So, we cannot make a blanket statement to "get rid of it".....! No doubt certain climates might not necessitate their use.

I live in the Mid West now... I eliminated the storm door as it was UGLY and put in a clear glass paned door with side lights.. where I live ppl if they want can see right in yet the front lawn is very deep so if they wish they can peek. The only thing I miss is the breeze from the screen that replaces the storm door in Spring which is short. Summer too humid soooo. Not sure what area the home is as the screen in my area was used only 5 max 6 weeks. It is a trade off however.

Yes, yes. To make a statement is key, but be careful which statement you make. My father made a statement that was clearly too strong and the Bolsheviks hauled him off into the wooded snow. A tussel ensued, to say the least. But my wife and I put in a solid glass door which allowed the natural light to flood the entry. Unfortunately, our daughter's friend, running from her father, so as to avoid the ending of a playdate, ran right into the door thinking it was, in fact, open. Like a cartoon character, a dumb cat, her body flattened completely against the window and then, remarkably, slowly slid to the foot of the door.

it looks like the existing door is wood. Remove the storm door and see how it looks as is. Also paint the threshold a color darker than your siding so it doesn't look like ur door is floating. I agree that the shutters should be removed.

So I plan to lose the screen door and possibly the shutters. Thank you all for that. But in an effort to get light in the house I was thinking of a door with 2/3 glass. Not this particular door, but perhaps something like it. I attached some additional house photos to show I Have a roof:) And to show the garage that sits to the left of the porch when your facing. Thoughts.....

More brown does not appeal to me, but it is your house. Loosing the screen door is a plus.

2/3 light is a great idea and you will love that light coming inside as well.

would you consider a door such as you posted that is not as ornate. I don't see it with all that is going on. This has privacy glass yet not, "frosted" which would not be a good look :) Below is a door that will brighten up the front as there are many windows that appear to be perfectly clear glass and are not

I'm sure there are doors out that as such that are not wood you can have it painted if you choose so it's not as dark to a complimentary color to the home . A door such as this type would be very nice yet not busy.

I painted your columns in a color similar to your fascia and window trim. I think the white is a bit stark with all the lovely warm colors you have. I would consider painting your garage door the same color. I also put in a "door" similar in color to the one you are contemplating to give you an idea of what it might look like. I also definitely agree that the house looks better without the undersized shutters.

absolutely not.... my front door is all pane (nothing solid below as shown) and clear bevel and my windows are the same as well. I had a solid black door when we moved here with clear side lights. I love the door! I do understand people don't like clear glass so I offered up the privacy aspect. No, it's fine.... I live in a 2 story colonial.

So it looks like 2/3 glass is going to be a good option. And the shutters are coming down:)What color should the door be. From what I'm hearing I have to much brown , since it's mostly glass will brown work? Or do I need to stay away from it?

if you are ok with clear glass then go clear.... yet, most are not so you have an option of privacy glass just NOT FROSTED please..... ewwwww. I feel all the ornate on front doors takes from the house which is better addressed with landscape and other.

In my opinion if you are going with this much glass

you can go wood tone yet you can go with a door that is less expensive not being

wood in the same design and have it painted a color you like. Either way is fine. Perhaps a burgundy tone pops immediately to my mind. I would not go too crazy as you said you are getting rid of the shutters. Take the door photo and post it asking what color... I apologize I can't try colors now it's getting late in my world and I need to make dinner :) I'd update the light adjacent to the front door to one with clear glass to brighten the space such as

update the mailbox... a basket spray painted to match the front door where the existing is as there is plenty of over hang to protect.... house numbers on the white pillar in black such as the light above on the right pillar when facing the house vertical naturally providing you don't have a million numbers in your address.
