Cabinet order mistake - ugh!

I'm terrified this is going to delay my renovation by weeks or months.

The cabinet designer seemed to have made a mistake when ordering. On one the shorter set of upper cabinets (two cabinet boxes) its recessed and level underneath.

On the other side (three cabinet boxes) the height in between the boxes is too long!!!! I can't install my undercabinet electric which is a continuous strip along the back and this just looks terrible.

1) do you agree this is a mistake on part of the cabinet designer?

2) should I even try to have my contractor try to fix the cabinets? Could this be fixed without damaging the cabinets? Or would you have the cabinet people order again?

3)has anyone had issues with their cabinet order? Is the lead time to "fix" stuff the same as the lead time to manufacture? For us this was 8 weeks.... shoot me.

Thanks everyone. Disaster averted. It was a mistake because one side was fine and the other side wasn't. The cabinet designer's manager came to my house and cut off the excess wood himself. You can see the exposed plywood edge but otherwise OK. It would have taken 4 weeks to get new cabinet boxes.

Where is the elevated drawing of what your kitchen is supposed to look like? Does the install look as that drawing? Your cabinet order specified the size of boxes and are you certain that is correct and all installed as per order and drawing? And why are you asking here when you had a KITCHEN designer? And did that designer know you were using under cabinet lighting and what type?

It sounds like the cabinet designer screwed up. While it's really frustrating and will take time, I think that having it done correctly is more important than having it done quickly. So go back to the designer rather than have your contractor try and fix it. Good luck!

Cut out the extended sides with a fein tool, add a new skin to the whole bottom if you feel so inclined.

Not a screw up. The extended frames hide the lighting. You cut holes for wires in the field, not the factory.

I agree with Sophie... not a mistake. The holes for wires should be cut on site. Do you have a contractor or kitchen designer overseeing the job? It's their job to make sure the install is done correctly. Give them time to finish the work before panicking.
