Nice kitchen! I'm going on 11 years with my Ikea kitchen too (white Abstrakt) and it looks brand new as well. (Despite my young daughter using my lower drawer pulls as a ladder to reach high things for the past few years!) Can't say enough good things about my Ikea cabinets and drawers.

Snobbery. I put in an RTA kitchen with custom cabinets from Scherrs. We took great pride in putting them together as a family project. I was showing my home to a potential buyer and explaining some of the features of the kitchen renovation. My realtor told me later to never mention that we had a hand in the cabinet construction. It would come across as cheap.

Fast forward to last week. I honored her request and didn't mention that they were RTA cabinets that we had painstakingly constructed. The appraiser was in the home and wanted to know who had designed my kitchen. I showed her some of the great features of the all drawer kitchen that my friends at GW helped to design. Her response was to be delighted and she told me that the amazing kitchen with such thoughtful detailing would get me some extra money in the valuation. She loved it.

Sometimes people just need to get over themselves.

Looks great! I know a lot of people would not install IKEA cabinets, but I worked for them as a part time job for a year and spent time trying to scratch doors or find a drawer that was broken. None. Those cabinets in the showroom take the beating of 10,000 people opening and closing them DAILY and kids in the store hiding in them and look great. Door styles are not always the greatest, but teamed with custom doors like Scherrs changes the game!

What a great kitchen! Those Adel doors and fronts were amazing. Our 7/8 year old Adel white looked new when we sold our house. Hopefully the Sektion version of that style will wear just as well.

And this thread is exactly why I am installing IKEA in my home. Oh - and in 10 years if I want to replace the doors and change the look - it's a weekend project to pop off the doors and change out some end panels!

My brother did the med brown Adel and his kitchen is stunning too. Yours looks VERY high end. Planning, and attention to detail MAKE the high end look. You WIN!

I can't believe this is an 11-year-old kitchen. It looks way more on-trend (in a good way!) than most of what is being newly installed in my neck of the woods.

I think every time someone starts another boring thread about white kitchens and timeless-ness, this thread should be linked. Talk about timeless design. I can see in 20 years maybe stainless will finally be out of vogue, but that's just me. LOL!

Open shelves (middle of island end) were just cut from end cover pieces. Our glassware was in the glass-door cabinets.

We are in the midst of an IKEA remodel so this post makes me happy!

Our small (10' by 11') IKEA kitchen was 12 years old when we sold the house in 2015. Heard enthusiastic comments from realtors and prospective purchasers. It was a total DIY except for the replacement slider onto the deck. Just wanted to show that the cabinets really hold up.

Any feedback on their non-wood fronts?

My cabinet fronts are the high gloss foil Abstrakt. I love them. They've held up for going on 11 years and are as shiny and perfect as they were on day 1.

CEFreeman_GW DC/MD Burbs 7b/8a I already don't care for normal stainless steel lol. I like black stainless steel. This thread is making me wonder about using IKEA, I was scared cause it's not plywood boxes and my mother always goes on about if there is a leak how MDF will swell etc. But this would lower the cost by quite a bit because otherwise it's 100% custom as I really don't have much faith in LOWES and Home Depot cabinets as pretty as they are. In the stores they always have some that look really beat up and IKEAs have always looked new. If I use Sherrs doors does that mean I can make the drawer height any size I want? And is there a way to get custom inserts to fit that I've seen from custom cabinet makers? And what kind of paint at a paint shop would I have sprayed on to paint new doors?

Not sure I understand the beef against stainless. To me, it works as a neutral. Coordinates with most kitchens. Not sure if there is a kitchen that it wouldn't coordinate with.

Carolyn87 - Ikea cabs are mdf, but they are covered in melamine. We've had a leaking sink drain in our bathroom once (Ikea Akurum vanity), yet no water damage whatsoever. None. No swelling at the edges of the shelf below the sink, or anywhere else.

Also, Ikea cabinets hang on the wall and in addition are supported by either stainless steel or hard plastic legs. No part of the cabinet sits on the floor.

Should you ever have a flood, they beat plywood cabs sitting on the floor anyday.

eld6161 Stainless just isn't something I ever liked. I don't hate it but I just don't like it either if that makes sense. I love the new black stainless that companies like Samsung are using. I tend to like painted color appliances even though they can be more limiting in what other things can be to look good with them. I love the appliances that look vintage like the Big Chill look or Aga. They are cost prohibitive but I really love that look. Everyone has different taste, and that's a good thing.

pippabean Thank you. That is very helpful. That also means you don't need to shim them like I see on TV often times since from what I've seen the feet are adjustable.

Yes, no shimming on the floor. You'll want to shim the hanging rail, as walls are not flat. A really long straigt edge makes this easy, especially as you have total access, since you do that before you hang the heavy cabs.

Wow, those lights inside the drawers are gorgeous. Such a high end look! I would have done an Ikea kitchen in a heartbeat if my closest one wasn't 4 hours away. Too risky and I don't have time for the inevitable back and forth...

OK, I have IKEA that is six years old (AKRUM?) and I did have a water leak under the sink - the only issue I had was the melamine de-laminating from the base material. I either reglued it or just mashed back down (under the sink, most people are not checking). I have no intention of selling the property in my lifetime so that isn't an issue.

95% of the complaints of IKEA cabinets are from small retailers unable to compete on price.

If anyone is still following ... I bought some smaller Ikea kitchen cabinet doors in As-Is to see how they'd do ... left them outside, leaning against the barn. A couple of years later they're still fine despite Canadian winters and summers, bird poop, etc. Whatever they coat them with, it's tough stuff! I bought the old Ramsjo, and a melamine one.

S Briz - hopefully you're still following! Your kitchen is super! Some questions for you ... how are the bamboo cutlery trays holding up? What's your countertop material? It's lovely, and I love the edge! And, how did you form the curved open shelving beneath the end of one of the counters?

All of these kitchens look updated to today's standards even though some were "old". It's why I recommend Ikea for its price point.

These all look great! I've always heard great things about IKEA cabinets. I wanted to use them in a recent renovation but was overwhelmed with the DIY plan process and I didn't have time project wise to ask for help :)

Our IKEA kitchen was one of the highlights of our recent sale. We used Laxarby painted cabinets and they are 1.5 years old and used daily. We put in custom templated fantasy brown quartzite as a highlight, too since the kitchen is the first room you see on entry to the condo it really steals the show. We love the features of the IKEA cabinets and the layout that gardenweb helped us decide on. All the feedback was that the kitchen was amazing, and the new owners of our condo are getting a beautiful, functional kitchen that will last them a very long time!

I am planning to do an Ikea kitchen in the few months and was really hoping that in New 2018 catalog, Ikea would introduce white shaker door. It's didn't happened. I had some quotes done by the couple of companies, that's doing custom doors for Ikea and it was pricey. Did any of you use the "regular" replacement doors company, or I have to use only ones, that specialized in Ikea?

Ikea US hates white shaker for unknown reasons. Never did figure out why. They could have sold double or triple the number of kitchens they've sold if they'd gotten over that.

If you go with Scherr or Semi-Handmade, the advantage is that they have the drilling patterns for the doors, so all you have to do is give them the door sizes you want. But if you don't mind getting the drill pattern info for them (cheap door from As-Is is the simplest way to get the measurements), then Barker, Advantage, Cabinetnow, Maplecraft USA, and others will make doors for you.

S Briz I wish I live close to you. I already explored that option with no luck. For some reason nobody in NJ wants to make cabinet doors nor to paint them. After couple of month looking I decide that would be a less headache and better quality paint job then self paint , is to go with the one of the doors company. My kitchen is really dark, so I need to use as light cabs as possible. I did order some samples and like them. I'm little scared to go ahead with it, because I need a lot of doors and drawers and if I make a mistake I will be in big-big trouble.

S Briz - Love your marble countertops! We've considered using marble for our kitchen countertops and have been surprised that it is cheaper than some granites and quartzites! We use our kitchen ALOT and the softness of marble worries me. How do you like your countertops? Do you have any etching, staining, scratches and/or chips?
