IMO orange peel finish on a wall is a cop out, the walls need to be smooth. as for adding glaze to the paint , test a small space and see if that is the effect you want.

My laundry room is painted Tidewater. I would just buy a gallon of paint. I got an email from SW today that they are having a 40% off sale.

I think it could be great but I love to experiment as an artist. you would need to test on the texture to really know the fully effect. When I retextured it drank up the paint so your glossy glaze might be matt.
You could mix it with a can of ultra white primer/ paint to make a lighter base coat if you are doubting the darkness of Tidewater. The natural light always effects the color.
Try what you have. the worse that could happen is you buy more paint. My guess is that fresh texture will need a primer and a couple coats. would love to see test core and what you choose.

Yes, you are all right. The walls will definitely need primer, and the skim coat/orange peel definitely would soak up all the paint otherwise. The orange peel is there because even though we had a skim coat made on the entire bathroom walls, there was still a bit of the mess underneath that had been caused by ripping off wallpaper and then a botched attempt at (over)texturing to hide the damaged drywall. We could do another light sanding before priming. I'm up for experimenting. The thing I'm worried about is that the glaze will not allow the paint to be applied evenly, that maybe it will look unintentionally streaky. I think I should try it, and then post a pic of the results here.

I live in California and orange peel is the texture they use in all the houses. Unfortunately.

I don't like the sound of it ,your walls will look wet all the time if you use a glaze .

Orange peel is very common in California as well as a lot of areas in Washington state.

Ok, thanks all. I'm not going to use the glaze. I'll get a gallon of tinted primer at the SW sale and then use the extra quart to do an extra layer on the "feature wall" of the bathroom (which also has more imperfections). The quart that I got is an eggshell instead of semi-gloss, because of the problem with imperfections.

I mean, a wet look with a watery color might be pretty cool, but don't want to highlight imperfections.
