I'm in South Central Al. Just got seeds in a trade. Wanted to grow it in a pot.Take inside coldest part of winter.

Not a very suitable clematis for a container. It gets huge, as does its root system, so confining it to a container will not only limit its growth but can also affect the flowering. It is also perfectly happy outdoors in your climate year round.

Sure, you can grow lots of clems in containers!! Just don't pick one that wants to grow 25 feet in a season :-)

One of the big clematis breeders, Raymond Evison, developed a group of plants that he calls the Boulevard patio clematis, which are smaller and so better for pots than something like sweet autumn, which as GG48 said, is enormous.
