Best lawn toy ever? Grab, blow, done. No gas, no cords, I love this thing!

My problem with battery powered tools is that you have to remember to charge the battery, and then when you don't you can't use it when you need it. Then it takes a while to charge. Whereas gas, I always have that around, not to mention I only have to refuel the blower once every 2-3 months. But I wouldn't mind something quieter and lighter, so good to know.

Between the string trimmer and backpack blower I can easily go through 6 gallons or more of fuel a year. There are times when I may run either of them for several hours at a time so battery tools will not work. It's funny because I see my neighbor drag out drop cords for his electric trimmer and blower. He actually spends more time dragging out and putting the cord away than he does using the tools. He doesn't like mixing the fuel. For him I think the battery tools might be the way to go.

I got tired of cords myself

I am all electric. No fuel, no points, no plugs, no oil, no filters, and much less noise. I charge the batteries after every use and they are ready to go for next time. B&D string trimmer lasts about 45 minutes on a charge. B&D lawn mower goes about the same, but I rarely go that long. I have adapted to mowing the front and recharging. Then I mow the back the next day and recharge.

I'm waiting for electric to have the same power and maintenance costs as gas. I'm OK with paying a little more up front.

I was contemplating an electric snowblower last fall. Ever price the cost for a replacement battery? In many cases, it's almost as much as the whole tool cost. No thanks!

Those batteries are high dollar for sure. I don't see myself with a battery powered mower, but I'll definitely be getting the hedge trimmers & probably try the string trimmer if my current one ever stops working.

I got my B&D mower maybe 10 years ago. Several years later I had a problem with it holding the charge, so I called the local repair rep. They told me there was a recall on the 18 volt battery and to bring it in for a free replacement. The new battery was 24 volt, so they said the old motor would not work well with it. They said I could upgrade to the new mower for something like $25, so I did that. I've had that one for 5 years at least (who remembers when they got a lawn mower). My previous mower was an aluminum deck Toro that I do remember getting when I was 16, so it was 40 years old and still started on the first pull.

But anyway lets talk blowers. Which one did you get, reeljake? Is it heavy? How long does it run on a charge? Variable speed? Where did you get it?

It's an e-go brand. Not heavy, maybe 5 pounds which is mostly battery weight. It says it will run 75 minutes, but I haven't needed more than 5 minutes for my little property. It is variable speed, up to 400 cfm with a super fancy turbo button that bumps it up to 530 cfm. Plenty to move clippings, leaves, etc. but not so much that it moves my rocks around

The B&D 20V lithium battery trimmer/edger I have is amazing. Im tempted to go out and buy the B&D lithium 20v battery blower. I have a gas blower and also an electric blower, and it's always the debate: go buy fuel/oil for mixing, or go drag out the cords. The battery is looking so much more convenient.

I'll never go battery mower, though. I love my Honda HRX217!!! :-P

Yeah, my next mower will likely be a Honda. I'm searching out a good new home for my old McClane reel at the moment, I haven't used it in 2 years because my rotary works so well.

My brother tried the ryobi blower, which is somewhere around 20v & was not impressed. The e-go is 56v which seems to be plenty & my neighbor has an 80v kobalt that seems to work well also.

Happy Father's Day to me. My wife got me this E-GO leaf blower on sale a few weeks ago and somehow managed to hide it from me until today. This blower does ROCK as reeljake said up front.

It is surprisingly quiet. It clearly was moving stuff around at the low setting, but I boosted it up to about 1/3 for a little better/quicker moving around. The Turbo setting is like the insane setting in a Tesla. When I pushed the Turbo button I could feel the intake sucking at my shorts trying to inhale them. The cars are in the driveway, but if they weren't, I could probably clear the entire driveway from one spot with the Turbo button pressed.

I think I'm locked into the E-GO brand now. I have their chainsaw, although I've never used it. We bought that to help clean up after Hurricane Harvey last summer, but the neighbors got the yards cleaned up fast with heavy equipment. The E-GO 15-inch string trimmer looks very slick with the auto load feature for the two strings. My birthday is coming!!

This thread convinced me to get the blower too. Very impressed and no struggling to get it started like my ECHO. Have since added the chainsaw (dchall, it's excellent!), and the combi edger and trimmer. Very, very impressive.

That thing looks bad ass! How long does it last just using it on the minimum setting? I believe I heard it only last about 5-7 minutes when it's on the turbo setting.

I don't know how long it would last in actual practice. I think they advertise It works 75 minutes on low. For me it worked so fast I was easily done in 2 minutes even with the occasional Turbo blast. That would have been 20 minutes of broom work. If you have a gas powered blower it runs all the time even if you are just walking to the next spot to use it. The electric ones only work when you pull the trigger, so it's only on a few seconds at a time.

This is a next generation battery technology tool. I have a Black and Decker battery powered mower and string trimmer, and this seems like a big tech leap beyond those. What I like about it is 1) it really works well, and 2) convenience. I'm going to blow off the driveway at lunch time today. Anyone with a gas blower going to do that?

To me, the low setting is useless. I put it on high or nothing. It clears up my sidewalks, driveway and patio in no time. The batteries are all interchageable and the smaller battery (2.5 AH?) will run out for just my small property. The larger 5 AH battery will do my trimming/edging and blowing, so that's what I use most of the time. The blower definitely uses a lot of pwer on high.

I have mine set to high all the time, but have to hit the turbo on occasion if there's a clump of wet grass. Still love it after a full year! The string trimmer works well too & the hedge trimmer is on my birthday list
