Wood Wrap Around kitchen Island

HI, I'm buying a house from a builder and they are charging $1000 to wrap my island (see picture). The standard for this area is sheetrock.
The amount of island that will be wrapped measures about 48 square feet (16 x 3). Is this a reasonable price? or should I just go with a local handyman who may be able to do for a lower price.
