Let's start with: what don't you like? What do you like? Do you have a budget? Are you thinking big changes, like layout or tile, or are you thinking decor changes?

Find some photos of bathrooms you really love on Houzz for your ideabooks. In the meantime, you could add some luxurious bath rugs and new bath towels. How is the overall lighting in the room?

My hunch is that your husband likes it with all the dark stone, and dark wood. Is the dark stone your taste or do you want to lighten it?

For a start, I'd use white towels and a white or light coloured bath mat, and accessories. Plus, paint the wall by the toilet the same lighter colour as the rest of the room.

To substantially improve this bath would require a gut job and 25-35k. The gain would be a larger shower and larger vanity and you would loose the jetted tub. The main objection I have to the room is the dark tiling. You could remove and replace it but I think that is 70% of gut job and would probably lead to full gut job. So, you really have only two choices in my mind. 1. Gut; 2. Paint and lighten up accessories and possibly add new LED lighting for brightening.

The bathroom with the red wall and brown bathroom cabinet came with the house. I would love to gut but unfortunately we cannot afford that right now as we just had a baby.

I would love to get rid of that cabinet, not only do I not like how it looks but the fact that it goes over the brown stone onto the white wall and doesn't line up gets me. We definitely need another towel rail as well so we could then find one that would work better in that space.

I like the idea of putting things on the big white spaces, they look like they are asking for something. I would however not have through of pictures as I just assumed it would not work with the steam of the shower.

I have attached an image from just a bit further away so that you can get an idea of the rest of the room, which is all white at the moment still but I would eventually like to paint and add a nice rug.

I would paint that one red wall to match the rest white or whatever color.. get some nice white towels and white bath mat, maybe some nice window coceringsand make it more spa like! its a nice space! or go a more natural route and get more items to match the woven hamper and maybe add a plant!

The slate goes well with a light olive green color, replace lighting with a LED fixtures and more modern accessories and this would help a lot if you are on a tight budget. If you want a complete remodel make the shower larger and loose the tub.

The bathroom definitely needs a warmer paint color. The white is really too stark for the tile. I'd pick up a paint deck and look for something that works with the tile color but in a lighter shade. Look for a color with an LRV over 50 to help brighten things up. Painting the vanity doors a darker color will help as well. Basically, everything acm said!

Thank you for everyone's advice! I am going to look at paint this weekend for the walls and to get the doors darker, look for white towels etc. as well as see what I can find to replace the wood cabinet with to start things off :)
