Help decorate/design my new office!!

Please help me add a designer touch to my very bland, blah office. Would love some touches of blue. What are you suggestions on where to start to make the biggest impact?
One change will be the location of the desk, I will be moving it toward the back wall. Cannot paint, but I think I can still add color in a nice painting or works of art?

Can't paint? Bummer. An art collage wall could help immensely. Pick a theme or an artist and start collecting pieces to start the collage. Throwing some word art within the mix is fun, too. Good luck!

My first thought is to add some guest chairs with a colorful fabric. Then a two or three-piece artwork set on the back wall. Faux tree in the corner and a floral whether real or faux on the corner of the desk. A hutch unit or possibly some sort of shelving or wall organizer over the "L" portion of your desk.

One idea I had was to buy blank art canvases and paint them in the blue color you like. I saw a sale online for a package of 7 for $14.99. Each was 11" x 14" so you could hang six of them on one of your walls, three over three. I'd probably hang them 2" apart, which would give you a big rectangle of 46" x 24." Obviously, you could paint them all the same color or do a shaded effect. Very inexpensive way to break up the beige.

Is it possible to pull your desk away from the wall..and place the chair behind the desk....so your back is facing the wall ....then put your art or decor on the wall you will be facing so you can enjoy while working as well?....if possible locate the files and auxiliary pieces on wall behind or to the sides where you can access them easily?...

Looks like a corner will work as well...

I will be pulling the desk back toward the back wall so that I face the door, which is a placement of power.

NancyD, I like your idea, it would add lots of color quickly and pretty inexpensively... but the more I think about, the more I think I would like to have a scenery to loose myself into, give my brain a break.
I think I may have fallen in love with these.
    What do you think??

I live on Cape Cod, so I'm always in favor of any scene that transports your mind, especially one of the beach and the ocean. That's quite lovely.

I think having one scene span back wall would look nice. I don't have to put a lot of thought like a wall gallery or collage.
I even thought about adding some air plants dropped from the ceiling. To add an element of nature.

So, the prints come in size 18X24. I was thinking about buying a larger "poster" frame. Should I pray the frames gold, buy them black or buy them white?? Which color looks best for the space a prints??
Are these frames too big or would they be a good size?

You said the prints come in 18" x 24" yet the frames are 24" x 36," so, yes, I'd say they're too big, unless you plan to buy a mat for each print. The prints, as you showed them, however, look connected (like a triptych), so I'd either look for different frames or prints.

I was able to move my desk back and added a beautiful painting. Here's the result.

Lovely painting! I'd also add two smaller framed photos or pictures of a similar style on the side wall where your desk is located - will add more color to your office.

Great idea, I also liked the idea from earlier about a nice decorative shelf there. Maybe incorporate some personal items to add a touch of warmth. This office is still so cold.

Can you move your computer monitors to the side piece of your desk? As it is now, your visitor sits in front of your desk and looks at the back of your monitors and a bunch of cables. It is much friendlier to be able to see each other. I would also suggest replacing the single chair w/rollers with 2 stationary visitor chairs.

Could you post more pictures of the complete room? No windows? Where's the door? The room still looks bare. More artwork, more color

Add some funky blue chairs, light pendant, floor lamp or desk lamp, gold and blue accessories. Open shelves

I will def post some more pics. I love the idea of adding more decor and artwork. It is rather bare. In the meantime, just wanted to let you know the picture was taken in the doorway and there are no windows.

Here are more photos of the office. I tried to move the pc monitors over as far as I can, but because of the nature of my work, I can't have it visible, so I bought the corner is a nice compromise and it leaves some room to speak with a person face to face.

The art is nice, but you can't enjoy it. How about another piece right of the door? Be sure art is centered 5' above the floor. Best office change I always made was to add table or floor lamps so I could turn off the prison lights overhead. If you can exchange the little brown cabinet for a slim credenza with doors, you'll have a place for a lamp and a way to hide clutter, including your personal items. Replacing the red chair with a blue one would make a big difference.

Live these ideas. I'll start looking for a stand up lamp. These lights do give me a headache.

You are getting some great ideas! I like how you moved your computer to front corner of desk to open up front of desk. When I was still working (retired 3 years now), I had an office like yours. I had a 5-drawer lateral file cabinet for filing papers and storing stuff. Also had a bookcase for reference books and some personal knick-knacks. I hung framed photos of Sedona, Arizona, on my walls. :-)

in my home office I like everything I use within reach of my desk by just swiveling around in my chair. this is done with bookcases behind me. since you have tall walls unbroken by windows I think you need to get some taller bookcases on the wall behind you.

you can use the spaces within arm reach sitting down for the things you use most for work with the upper shelves for personal objects bringing in color. could also have a lower unit with doors to hide extra paper and files flanked by taller ones making a convenient place for a printer.

I agree that pictures should be where you get the most pleasure from looking at them instead of bare walls, either directly in front of you or on the side walls. since you don't have windows, I think landscapes are the best choice. you could have your own pictures canvas mounted at costco or other places.
