This year I have 4 Sungold plants. My goal is to "have more Sungolds than I know what to do with." I am well on my way. Between the four plants, there are about 290.

Janice, a girl after my own heart! I have 10 this year. My favorite tomato by far! We eat them daily and they're served as an entree at least 3 times a week during the season.

I found this recipe one time that I make. You may have seen a version. Makes a good entree: Sungold salsa on top of black beans on top of corn bread. Also throw in a little sour cream. The salsa is sweet. My family loves it.

Sungolds make great jam.

Nice progress, Janice. I grew Indigo Apple and Rose last year. Very pretty fruits. This year I have Indigo Cherry Drop.

I had 2 Sungolds. I lost one to freeze. The lone one has fruits.

My number one leader is SFT then comes my own Brown Heart. Stupice and Black Cherry are coming along nicely too.

I found a little volunteer this morning. I will try to get some water to it. It could be a Juan.

BREAKING : I may have made a record in my tomato adventure. my Sungold is breaking color. So is SFT.

Now this is 90 days from seed. DTM is about 50.

Janice, tomato jam is wonderful. Depending on the recipe, it works for both sweet and savory stuff. I'll probably never use ketchup again for anything, since tomato jam does everything ketchup does better and more.

Sey, that's the beauty of a climate in which you don't sit in cool gloom all spring!

I love cool gloom, personally, for myself. But tomatoes don't.

Right, gorbelly. It is cooking here. Even with a nice breeze it is close to 90F.

BTW: Black Cherry has some tomatoes and tons of flowers. Its leaves are very narrow. Isit normal ?

They're not very narrow. Maybe a bit less wide than average? They tend to be a darker green and have a bit more texture than average (not anything approaching rugose, but just a bit more textured than the average).

Feels like 86 here in Charleston. Lots of sun. Good chance of rain tomorrow. I spent the morning removing lower leaves to increase air flow. A few showed normal leaf diseases, not too bad.

Janice - have you grown Sweet Million in the past? It looks like a real producer from doing a search. How would you compare Sweet Million with Sweet 100 or Super Sweet 100? Your mega truss looks very impressive. I am always looking for a high cherry tomato producer with a great taste for our grandchildren. We can't keep up with their cherry tomato addiction when they visit Gma & Gpa - haha

Hudson: This is my first time growing the SM. I am growing it because of its production reputation. A coworker grew it a few years back and was able to share lots of tomatoes from a single plant. I have grown Sweet 100 before and I recall disease wiped it out early. My main cherry experience is with Sungolds which are holding twice as much fruit presently over the SM. To be fair, the Sungolds got quite a head start on the SM. I am impressed with the SM to date. I'll let you know how the taste test goes. I have another good cherry performer, Chocolate Sprinkles. I'll provide some feedback on that one too.

If a plant sets, grows, and survives to maturity AND produces an abundance in my conditions, I would imagine you would get better production than what I will ever see.

I know you have your constraints(space/ceiling on energy investment). I have some space limitations, but many of my more recent obstacles have been Mother Nature and the school of hard lessons learned. There are many days I think about your greenhouse.

Thanks Janice - I may just order a Sweet Million plant from White Flower Farms when my wife gets her perennial flower plants order ready. We do like Sungold - the plant did very well and Sweet 100 produces well for us. We got bad seeds from our supplier the year we ordered Super Sweet 100 and got the nastiest tasting golf ball sized tomatoes (2-3 to a truss) I have ever tasted. We need to give Super Sweet 100 another trial. Here are a couple of photos of Sweet 100 from years past.

We are giving Gardener's Delight - a German Heirloom cherry tomato variety a trial this year along with our regular - Sweet 100 plant. I also planted a couple of ABC PL and Brandywine cherry PL cherry tomato heirloom plants that just sprouted. Not sure if I will find room for them but may put them in a container and place them where I will stumble over them all year - haha. Thanks for you comments about our GH!
