Definitely think you should keep the red. I would go with any shade of green for the shutters. Green complements red, touching up the red on the door and adding a blue-green to the shutters would brighten up the house!

I might suggest the next size up in width of shutters....

Perhaps dark spruce or spanish moss. Green to me will be too Christmas!

Wedgewood blue is very pretty, but fear the door is too, "red" for this and would need to be maroon or a different tone of blue. Take a look at Wedgewood blue shutters on the net and you can tie in the door with a color if you think you might love it.

There are some pretty lighter blue green door colors that would look pretty with this.

Some self watering planters on each side of the door would add some pop and some landscape in front of the fence..... right now it's all house.

I would add some wide trim around your windows than add the gray painted shutters.

I'm not certain how long the lights are you have flanking the doors. Yet, if you got something darker and longer as the electrical is there it would balance. Naturally, you would have to see where the back of the light attaches (preferably at the top) to the wall to know how they would hang. This would give more presence to the front door/house as well..... this light is 15" long.

Was asking only because you said you had to order in the colors for SW door color sample and so on...... you may have been speaking of the shutter color in wedgewood only though :) Lowe's sells SW so thought it would be a option for you to grab some other blue samples or they can match a BM paint if you like one of their colors if it ends up the darker blue with Wedgewood is too dark.

A friend of ours is doing the painting for me, he uses Benjamin Moore. He had brought me the color book yesterday and will bring samples today. Will post pictures as we go.

I think you've got lots of good ideas here, and definitely agree about adding trim and for sure wider shutters, as well as larger scale porch lights (including another great option below) and a door knocker. Before deciding on a final plan, I think it's worth considering a simple stained wood shutter style (the stain doesn't have to be brown). I think your house could have great curb appeal with a little more of a rustic, unexpected look, especially since you're in the country. If you look on pinterest (Houzz doesn't have much) you'll find lots of photos of simple, classic ranch style houses that have been given a face lift with rustic wood shutters, dark trim on the windows and mullions, and a great color door. You have such great potential in your house - it's a blank slate with balanced proportions. There's easy tutorials on pinterest for building your own shutters too if you'd rather. Then add some chairs and potted pants on the porch and put in some more landscaping and you'll be there.

Great home! I'm usually a "remove the shutters" person, but I think your house is an exception to the rule. Just make them wider as suggested. I would also widen the posts of possible. Have u considered getting the roof professionally cleaned? Love the red door! Please post pics of ur progress and good luck!

The Wedgewood blue will be pretty for your shutters. Definitely a size up. I'd get those up first and then decide on your door color once you see how they look in your light under your porch. By the way, your porch is just screaming for some hanging baskets for summer!

Hmmm not sure about the shutter color with the lighter blue door..I feel like the shutters should be a bit wider..are they new or did you just paint out the old ones? The door color is pretty but I would do gray shutters.

I think the shutter color is pretty with the house but they really should be double the width. They're so small for your windows and you have plenty of room to make them bigger. I would like to see the door in a contrasting color to the blue, maybe a pretty yellow.

I believe it was Tamara's intention to paint them vs. replace... Once she gets her larger scale lights in by the doors and gets her hanging baskets ferns or flowers around the porch, planters to flank her entry..... some rockers I think it will look great. Need some landscape out front yet that will come in time. I keep on seeing a larger cast iron knocker on the front door and house numbers vertically down the white pillar minus the bell that is there.

Really not enough difference between the two different blues used....not sure I would add red accent...she just got rid of the red door? Maybe a pretty coral or yellow in the accents.
