Beheading help

So this is my echeveria Lola that I beheaded cause she was getting tall. I cut it and then left it out for a week to callus. Afterward I stuck it in a pot with soil and it was only in there for a day before I read that you should wait for roots before potting. I removed it because I didn't want it to rot. Is it normal for it too look so shrivelled and dead at the end? I realize all this moving might have stressed it out but is there anything that is wrong with it or will it still be able to sprought roots? If it can't, what should I do? This is my favorite plant and I really want it to survive.
