Does a corner pantry work in this kitchen?

Hello everyone

We are trying to decide if we should add a corner pantry to the 13x13 kitchen we have in our new construction home.

This is what the kitchen looks like in the model home (sorry for the bad lighting)

In this layout, there is window above the sink and there are some tall cabinets in the far right to the sink (you can see them at the edge of the picture) which are to be used as pantry cupboards.

We want to change the layout so that we get a bare island only used for eating and prep work, a free standing range with a microwave hood vent and a corner pantry.

But all of the above changes seems to imply we will end up with the following layout:

Looking at this I am not sure if a 4x4 corner pantry will make the kitchen appear too cramped up..

The other option is to just go with the tall pantry cupboards which will give a layout similar to this one (the cupboards will be where the double oven is in this photo):

I do want the storage since we cook a lot but I have also read that there are not much differences between the actual space you get from corner pantries compared to well designed pantry cupboards.

So what are your experiences/advice? Will a corner pantry work in a small kitchen like this? Or is it better to get a well designed pantry cupboard?

Thanks!
