Yes you can and they do well, probably not as well as in the ground but it's good enough for me!!!

Thank you. Mine are all indeterminate. I guess they can go in the garden with the others. I wanted something on the porch. Maybe I can get another one.

Vintageliving, which tomatoes have you tried? I have Mr. Stripey and Hillbilly.

I bought another plant to try in the bucket. Husky Red or Red Husky. It was recommended for containers but still is an indeterminate, I believe. Thanx for the advice.

Tree, I am a novice, and my expectations are low. The cherry tomatoes did well; the Better Boys (indeterminate) also did well but did not produce like those of gardeners around here and my husband did do modifications to the cage. My friend has a great "formula", for lack of a better word, for raising tomatoes in the 15 - 20 gallon cattle feed buckets. I can tell you what she does if you'd like to know. We are in Louisiana and her buckets are in full sun. That makes a big difference.

Yes I am interested, thank you. But I am in Virginia, however, tomatoes typically grow well here so I may pick up some pointers from your friends method. I really wanted larger tomatoes near the house so I don't have to hike to the garden for one.....but the worst case is that I will get more exercise.

vintage … please share the cattle feed bucket secret … i use them too. always nice to see others repurpose these things. upside down, they are great party seats ...
