We used a paintbrush to apply Roundup to carex that was invading other desirable plants and it seemed to be effective. A friend also used that method to get oxalis out of his newly planted Kurapia. Try it in a small area. You'll be able to see results in a few days.

That worked for us getting oxalis out of a bed of elfin thyme. We used a rubber glove and dipped a fingertip into the Round-Up then just lightly touched a couple leaves on each offender. Never had a problem with it affecting roots of other plants, as it works through leaves.

I have UC Verde buffalo grass and had tremendous problems with bermuda grass, which I "thought" I had killed before planting the buffalo grass. My suggestion is not to be timid with the Round-Up. I hit the bermuda grass that I would found and then added 6 inches extra to the area to be sprayed. It's the devil's grass and you have to be really assertive to go after it, otherwise it will always be there, rearing it's ugly head. My buffalo grass grew back, but it took one year.

That's sad to hear. I guess that's what will happen to me too. When you say it took the buffalo grass a year to grow back, is it because it was affected by the Round Up or the invasive Bermuda grass?

Because the roundup kills what it touches, it leaves a bunch of dead foliage. I had such large areas that I had to spray, along with the 6inch border I added, some of the areas I sprayed are 2 feet by 1 foot. That was last year, this year it is filling in. Bermuda grass is aggressive and you have to be aggressive in killing it, or it will take over. There is hope, you just have to be patient. It will take a year or two to resolve.

sunburn22 - yup, we figured that it would keep on coming back which is why we got rid of the front yard and took out 1/2 of the back yard. Glad it worked for you - we are still in the water the dirt phase and round up any that comes back phase on the back yard.
