Yes, it is certainly concerning. There are other threads on GW that are quite a bit more alarming than the above. I have sent off a note to KC noxious weeds to get their input.

I've never seen it wild, local environment probably not suitable. Various E Asian plants have escaped cultivation in the similar summer climate and soils of E North America that are not able to do so out here. The two regions even share native genera like Magnolia and Stewartia that have no current W North American representation at all. A good way to anticipate what might be expected from a not already familiar plant is to find out what the climate conditions in the native area are like and then compare those to ours. The majority of the weeds in this region are Eurasian in origin.
