I have similar cherry cabinets, and opted to go with olive/slate tones in a 1" x 2" miniature subway tile grid, and then picked up the olive again in the paint. I also got rid of the 4" backsplash, so I tiled from the countertop to the bottom of the upper cabinets.

Not a great pic, but you get the idea...

As your backsplash you might try a cream colored subway tile with white grout to brighten up the room. There could a rectangular mosaic tile above the stove for contrast. Maybe change the lights above island to make lighter as well. I would use no window treatment because it darkens up the space and cabinets are so dark to begin with. You could then use the taupe scheme you best like. I lean more towards a #2 because of the colors in your floor tile.
