I would just pick a light neutral color for your overall house (not white) and continue that into the kitchen. I would not paint a kitchen a separate color. And I would update the appliances to stainless, which will not only look better but it will help break up all of that white.

I think that I would do something with a little color ( not gray!) so that it does not make your cabinets/appliances look dingy. I love your white appliances.

If your kitchen is open to other rooms, you need to consider that. If itis not, you can go with a paint color just for the kitchen, but it should work with the wall colors of the rest of the main rooms - so it doesn't feel like you walked into a different style house when you walk into the kitchen. Here are some that I like - I admit I personally am not fond of gray and other aspects of your kitchen are warm, so if you do go gray, go very light barely there gray.

I must agree with jhmarie. You should also consider the color/tone of the other walls in your house. Your white appliances are okay too. You don't need to change your white appliances just for style especially if it still works well. Don't be afraid in having all-white in your kitchen because small spaces don't accommodate much visual color interruptions and white will never go out of style. So for sure, a white kitchen will have a timeless look.

Regarding paint, besides considering the wall colors of the rest of the room, you should also consider your countertop and your floor.

Well here are just some paint colors we would suggest:

WOODLAWN BLUE

This color can give your kitchen a happy and fresh feel and it makes your white cabinets and appliances stand out. Color has more impact too when it extend to the ceiling.

CREAM STONE

This color brings out contrast to your white cabinets and appliances. It makes the kitchen more sophisticated and masculine.

WARM SIENNA

This paint can give your white kitchen a cozy feel. Very soft and warm.

WHOLE WHEAT

This color is the color of a golden brown sugar. Very appetizing with a lot of warmth.

BARRINGTON GREEN

This is a lovely grey-green color, not too dark and very soft, kind of like moss and is very elegant with white cabinets.

Check out a lot of white kitchen pictures online, decide what vibe you want your kitchen to have and remember that there is no too much white in your kitchen! :) It will look nice and clean. Hope it helps!

The all white kitchens that I have seen usually have cabinets that go to the ceiling:

I have a friend with a kitchen with white cabinets and white wall paint - her cabinets do go up to the ceiling. What I love in her kitchen is she has a light green beadboard ceiling and some similar color accents and it is very pretty - but I don't have a picture.

I nice green will go well with bblk.

My house is a four square, its small and the rooms are not open to each other. I have SW modern gray in the living room, SW let it rain in the foyer....the kitchen floor tile is this boring beige with sort of a gray tone to it and the counter top is a very basic brown granite with pink tones....I don't love it to say the least.

We're keeping the white appliances. I've thought about a wood look back splash too....just something different to break up the blah. Would you take the tile up to the ceiling? Maybe that would help to brighten things up? So maybe a white subway back splash to ceiling and then a neutral on the walls?

Granite counter is close to this color/tone. We sometimes consider replacing it, the counter isn't that large so cost might not be much but maybe that would help w/ other color choices for tile/paint.

Floor tile is close to this color/tone.

I would probably choose one of the very light colors in the countertops. The previous owner probably chose one of the deeper colors instead of installing a backsplash. A very pale color will contrast with the white backsplash you are considering, but still relate to the counters. Be aware that many whites have undertones, so bring tile samples home to see them in your kitchen before you commit.
