I can help you out a lot! Do you by chance have a floorplan you could show us? Doing so would greatly help me and others too probably.

The stools are nice....however, if they swiveled that would be great......and if they had a back they might be more comfortable.

Sorry I don't have a floor plan but I have other pictures. I simply laid out two tape measures, on 10 foot from the wall the 8 foot. it appears really big.

    I hope this helps

This is 5.1 X 7.6. I think fits better Your thoughts
  • 9 years ago
Very nice so far. I think 8 x 10 is better. So all the furniture can sit on it at least partially
  • 9 years ago
8X10 is too big? Did you see the above images?

Paint out the door, and change the fan for a white one. The pieces you've shown will probable cramp that small space.

@jtan they are already in place

You have a most unfortunate situation in your living area with the door opening right into the center of the room. How much space is there between the red chair and the kitchen?

And the rug needs to turn 90° so it's parallel to the couch and the front feet of the lounge chair sit on it.

    a few feet
The rug is a square so it's the same on every side
  • 9 years ago
I actually wanted the door place there.... it opens very nicely to my patio
  • 9 years ago
I would think about a cooler wall color with your gray and red.
Very nice. And I agree with you about a smaller rug. Especially in a smaller area and on tile floors. I have always used a four by six in our small condos. After all, tile is expensive, and the rug is just an accent. I guess if folks have wood floors they need to protect them and insist on larger rugs. I just think they are dirt collectors, and a hassle to vacuum when tile and wood can just be dusted.

Kccrn the walls are a neutral color...i think the camera adds more color than it really is

Move your doormat to the other side, the outside, of the door. These windows really need curtains. Linen always works. Move the TV and console a bit to the left and fill the space on the right with art or a large plant.

Be careful of small knickknacky objects. They tend to look more like clutter than decor.

The rug is ill-proportioned. You need a rectangle, not a square. It needs to be wider than the sofa. It throws the whole arrangement off.

This is the that will go behind the television
  • 9 years ago

Center your art over your sofa. You don't need to add anything else on that wall.

This is how large your rug should be:

A vertical piece would have worked better there.

    yup
I don't know if I agree with that
    Understand, Shaun. You're right.

Hmmm....I have to agree that putting the artwork behind the TV would look best. You can add a plant in the spot that the poster is showing.

I'd put the colorful art over the sofa.

Awesome style. And an avocado or pomegranate tree in the corner could be fun!

I have been following design dilemma for quite awhile. Groveraxle has never given bad advice...
I'm so glad someone spoke up. He hasn't listened to one piece of advice.

Sorry guys I've been traveling with terrible wifi. Thanks for all the advice. The last few comments are pretty harsh but thanks for the suggestions. Guys and 8×10 rug is to large for this space. I do not want a rug near the patio door( it will collect dirt...etc) However the current rug will fit nicely in my dinning area...which is where it's going. I put the rug there to get an idea of what size would fit. I have confirmed that a 6'7x9 would fit this area perfectly. Also the rug will be off white with grey cross lines

I really like the art above the sofa. And I know this will sound nit-picky, but I'd pull the rug about 3 or 4 inches under the sofa. :)

I'm still thinking about the art by the t.v. I'm not sure it's enhancing the room.

The sofa wall looks great! The TV wall isn't well balanced. I think you need to rehang the art on that wall.

Not too sure about the placement of the wall pieces @groveraxle. I don't think it looks very nice when part of it is covered by the TV.

I think that's pretty creative, Grover. The t.v. isn't centered on the console; the black in the console isn't in the center; so it makes sense to have everything a little off kilter so that it all works together as a balanced view.
