2nd week and my new St Augustine grass is still looking ruff

I'm going on the 2nd week of newly laid patches of st Augustine when we layed it down it was a beautiful green color then the very next day just completely changed and has brown spots everywhere seems hay like. I watered it real good when we layed it down and been watering day and night by hand for 30 mins to a hour. Everyone says to keep watering but Idk what else I can do besides that or what the problem is. Help please this is my first time growing with any type of grass. My husband tilled and put soil before Laying. It's my job to take care of it now and I have little hope.

hi there. This should be posted in design dilemma section, not before and after.
I'm not sure if you can change that, but this should give you a bump
how is the head at present

Look for army worms, bright green. They sometimes come in with new sod. If you have them you will need to get your lawn sprayed.

It is just going to take some time for your St. Aug to recover from the
transplanting. Do not over-water. 15 minutes in the morning and maybe 5
minutes at dusk. Keep it moist but do not drown it. Try not to walk on
it. Fertilize after you see some new growth. In a month it should really
look good. btw, do you not have sprinklers? Now the top picture- same
as above but it will take longer, add another month of recovery. Be careful not to drown that area. Here is my front lawn, it took me a couple of years to get it into this shape.

This was never a design dilemma. This is a lawn problem. There have been two lawn care forums here since the 1990s.
