That's a gorgeous dark peony, princeton! How old is your TP? Is it even darker than the pics above?

I'm not sure of the age, since it was a gift. A sweet friend surprised me with it last spring. Last summer it had 3 tiny flower buds that withered, but I was told this is normal the first year due to transplant shock. But this spring, it is covered with huge gorgeous flowers - which are are both more numerous and even larger than my 8 yo Shima Nishiki tp.

The color is difficult to photograph - it has a depth of color that in the garden looks truly black, which one might think would get lost in a garden, but instead, it is really eye-catching & looks stunning against the finer cut green foliage. However, when you look at a cut bloom indoors, it has shimmers of different dark, dark reds.

An extra bonus: when I cut a bloom to bring indoors, I discovered that the blooms are scented! The scent is heavenly - it's unlike anything else, so it's hard to describe. I had a guest who walked in my living room and she exclaimed what smelled so wonderful. She looked & looked around to find the source - which I didn't know, since I have other fresh cut flowers in the house. Then we were surprised to find it was the tree peony bloom.

Stunning. I had to replace mine when I moved from Maryland to Michigan and I gave them one of the best spots in the garden. They aren’t huge, but even though this is the first year from Fall planting, one has two buds and the other has one…same thing with High Noon. It must be the perfect client, and the rootstock of all were very healthy.
