Hi, we recently redid our kitchen, which included installing an island. On paper, the layout looked great. We even mapped everything out with tape on the floor. However, come installation, I was not around to provide input of exact placement of the island and it's countertop. We took island-to-fixed counter/appliances spacing into consideration with a 48" through way, but I'm concerned that with the addition of the island's countertop, we're now encroaching on the opposite walkway through the kitchen. Additionally, I'm concerned with the aesthetics of the island overhang being about 2" beyond the ending of the fixed counters. That they do not line up really bothers me. The problem, however, is that in my absence, my SO agreed upon the island going from temporarily placed to permanent (for all intents and purposes without extreme effort to deconstruct). This was designed and installed professionally, so I'm not surprised my SO missed it, but I am surprised the professionals didn't. Maybe I'm just overreacting?

I am in serious need of reassurance that we haven't made an expensive amateur mistake that I'll have to deal with for years to come.

My questions are: 1. does it look okay not to have the two counters lined up? 2. Considering guests may sit at the end of the island, would they be encroaching on the through way? 3. If it's agreed this is too big a problem to ignore, is there any reasonably priced solution?

In the attached picture, the fixed counter ends just after the dishwasher. It's difficult to see but the island overhang meets and then passes by 2" the end of that counter (we're also getting legs installed below the overhang). Also to the left of the dishwasher is the threshold between living room and kitchen. At the bottom left corner, you'll see the threshold from the kitchen to the dining room. This through way is the space I ask about encroaching on should we have guests sitting at the island. Sorry I don't have a better picture at the moment!
