or Touch of Class (Tokudama Aureoneblulosa is a very slow grower also)

For variegated ones, something similar in size to 'June' would be 'First Frost' or 'Ben Vernooy' with edge variegation but smaller than the 'Elegans' you have in the other. The 'Tokudama' will be slow growing as well..Your choice will somewhat depend on what growth habit you're looking for, upright or mound? The 'Sagae' would be great for an upright as would good 'ol 'Regal Splendor'. The 'June' and derivatives would be much more mound-like...The 'Touch of Class' variegation won't be near as bright as FF or BV...

Thanks for the suggestions. I may have to reconsidered the slow growers. I am looking at some Giantland Size that LOTG has on thier website and I think that would fix the problem of slow growers catching up to the size of the pot.

Pieter, thanks those are some spectacular hosta you suggested. I believe I want more of a mound type hosta, as I like the look of the leaves cascading down the side.

Ok, let's put slow growers back into the mix. I suppose anything worth having is worth waiting for.

Speaking of slow growers, and I know a lot of people have trouble growing it, but I think a Great Expectations would look pretty good in there.

GE or DQ would look nice, no doubt. But than you have 2 very similar looking/shaped plants. Are the pots near each other or are they quite some distance apart?

Liberty. I can't think of anything that would look nicer. I have heard others say its slow, but it hasn't been for me. I bought 3 more last year

I think any of the ones named would be stunning in that pot. My taste runs toward June and other bright ones that would pop against the turquoise but I know not everyone agrees. lol

June or Liberty get my vote.

June & Liberty were the first two Hostas I considered. I dont think you can go wrong with either.

I think Sagae would be nice too and a nice contrast in shape.

One thing I failed to mention is, due to it's size and weight this pot will most likely not be moved around. It will get a little morning sun and dappled shade, which would probably be adequate for most hosta, but if any thrive in that type of light it may affect your suggestion.

My choice would be Paul's Glory, which I guess is pretty similar visually to June.......both have a bluish tint to the green portions that would accent the turquoise of the pot very nicely as well as the gold for contrast. A nicely full plant when mature.

What about Earth Angel?

Earth Angel would be another fine choice that would fit the bill perfectly, thanks steph !

First Frost grown in a little morning sun and dappled shade. I'm not sure how big your pot is, but this plant has been consistently gorgeous for me. It's got good drainage.

How is your Blue Angel standing up like that ? Mine mounds and spreads out across the ground.

I don't know..have another one in back and it stands up too..I could have the ID wrong but I don't think so..maybe mine is younger..fewer leaves?..didn't use anything for scale but the leaves are huge..had to keep stepping back to get the pic..

I have Devil's Advocate (a Blue Angel sport) in a whiskey barrel and it's not as impressive as Jade Cascade is in the barrel on the other side of the patio. Both DA and my Blue Angel are kinda flat here in the North Carolina piedmont.

zkathy..mine has a flat leaf in front lol..this hosta is one that I was sure of the name..now I'm wondering..it's flatter than my Krossa Regal..I didn't really notice that it stands up..

Regal Splendor...got that one last year and it is already quite big and beautiful...I love the spring color...

The decision you'll make will have to be forever- you'll never get it out of that pot again.

Never say never Cicely. I'll get it out, all at once or one piece at a time. lol.

Especially when you put it in a straight plastic pot before you put it in that wonderful turquoise pot...and fill in between with bark, so both can survive a change :-)

'Blue Angel' is not on Don's list of Large Upright Hostas and none of the pictures in the HL resemble yours, so the ID is not correct. I'm leaning to it actually being 'Blue Umbrellas'....

Wanted to give an update on the blue pot.

Well, I ended up deciding not to buy a new hosta to put into the pot. Instead I decided to use one I already had growing a few feet away "Brother Stephan" was dug up this afternoon and re-potted into the blue pot.

Great choice! Brother Stephan will love that snazzy new home!
