Appliance color suggestions

Help! Here is my 10 yr. old kitchen. My dishwasher has died and I am torn on what color to purchase. I've always wanted ss. This could be my chance to change my appliances out to ss. I read though, that now it is going out. I then saw the Whirlpool white and black ice collection and the photos of the July 2012 Kitchen of the year. Wow. So, while ss goes with anything, I'd love to also paint the cabinets white or a dark grey. If I did that, ss is the best bet. Any white or black "icers" out there that have any feedback or any comments on what would look good here? THANK YOU!

Hi Marsh, Congrats on your upgrade! Go stainless steel --
Bosch has this dishwasher design, and it comes in either the 24" or the smaller 18" version.

I know everyone is gaga for SS, but once it's not new and you touch it, it's fingerprints and smudges forever! It will never look that good again. It shows every print, every swipe, everything! Personally, I don't like it, but that's just me. I have a country galley kitchen w/white appliances.

Gray cabinets would be gorgeous. Consider a darker gray on the bottom, and a lighter shade on top. Do you plan to replace the countertops, too?

I like the glass looking contemporary appliances in a contemporary kitchen where they flow with the cabinets. With your cabinets even if painted white or grey I would go stainless. I don't think stainless is going out of style - there will always be people who prefer a commercial or industrial look for the kitchen. I don't find it a pain to clean or keep looking nice and I hate cleaning :)

Also if you go white cabinets stainless will break up the white and avoid worrying about whites not matching - a lot of dilemmas on here are about warming up kitchens with white cabinets and white appliances - outside of a really contemporary kitchen it can be too much

I have had my ss for 8 years and would buy replace them all again with stainless - the look is timeless. I have recently been in a few appliance showrooms and the White Ice refrigerators were on display - they look really nice.I love anything white - but the finish on it is just as sooth and glossy as any ss appliance out there. Makes me think that it will be on the same level of 'work' to keep clean as the stainless steel.

I have to say I feel the same. I love my SS appliances and wouldn't trade them for the world. Because SS is so versatile and is a staple of professional restaurant kitchens, I think there will always be a place for it even when other colors of appliances come and go. So I don't worry at all about it "going out of style."

I work in the tile business and help a lot of customers with new kitchens and remodels. Many go stainless and I also hear a lot say they wish they hadn't....fingerprints. There are new stainless that won't print but even customers have told me how fake it looks. I personally bought black for my kitchen. The refrigerator has the texture that hides finger prints. And the stove, I felt, was easy to clean. If I had a meal that left the top splattered I simply washed with hot soapy water from my dishwater then followed with window cleaner and cotton towel. It cleaned fast and easy and shined when done. I say go black. Just my opinion good luck! :)

Had a Bosch DW that lasted only 3 years! Don't like my 5-y.o.Bosch W/D very much either...sheets "rope", a large piece rolls up and around smaller pieces, more digital options than I use...and grey finish stains. No more Bosch for me!

Hi Everyone! You all have been so very helpful. I really appreciate it. To answer some questions...yes, I really plan to deal with the dishwasher, then paint the cabinets (I have to say that for 10 years, these have been great...I polish them and they look new - I just am tired of the color). I also plan to go with granite or marble and also switch out the backsplash, but you know - decisions! Here is a photo of my family room. I included it because you can see why I was considering the darker grey cabinets. My thought would be to do white cabinets in the kitchen and have the island black...the many people are doing this. With all the tan in the room, I wonder if the white would be too white. I'd love to put in wood floors and tons of other upgrades, however I have two small children, I work full-time and well - it all costs money, right? Anyway all of your comments are so very helpful.

p.s. Does anyone know of a program I can load a photo to, and then "paint" the cabinets to see what they would look like as a different color? Thank you so much.
