Do you have dimensions, or better yet, a dimensioned drawing of the room? Real estate pics have an amazing way of making things look much bigger than they are!! (so yes, more pics of it empty would also help). Whatever you do, please don't put artwork and so on up near the ceiling like the former owners did!! Yikes. Surprised their agent didn't get them to declutter/remove all that before the house went on the market.

I love the pieces you bought! My only thought initially is can you add crown molding? Are the floors staying the same or will you change those? Yes, I do think drapery panels at each end would look great!

Annsl, we are planning to do a renovation but it will likely not be for another 5 years or so. Floors will stay until then. Was hoping the rug would soften the tile???

A rug would definitely help - I would imagine it's a bit echo-y in there too! Figure out what other seating pieces you want and how big the seating area will be, then get a rug that's big enough to fit under the front third or so of the seating. Need to decide on a colour palette too - what do you like? Look through pics on Houzz and create an idea book.

I'm liking these color palettes so far- and hoping they aren't too cliche. I love the idea of whites with gold and blue accents but not really sure how I would do that - esp with the distressed piece I bought above.

I think white, gold and blue would look great together, and also work with your distressed console. Add gold with metal and glass end tables or a coffee table, and with other accessories like art/mirror frames and lamps. Blue would look great in a rug, which would break up the white tiles and white sofa. I would start with finding a large area rug you like, with some of the soft blue colors from your distressed piece. I could see white walls with white and blue drapes, or soft blue walls with white drapes, but find your rug first. Paint should be last.

Yes to no "cluttering" but I think you know that. Also, don't go overboard on a "beachy" theme. I live on the coast (So. Cal), decorated very similarly to my previous home more inland with a touch of coastal feel. One of my neighbors ' house is beginning to look like a beach curio shop! :)

Hbfn, I agree - I'm hoping I can pull off a coastal "feel" without it being too cheesy or cliche. Hoping I don't make that mistake!!!! I will post pics next week of upcoming progress. Hope you all can help me move stuff around, etc! :)

Really love Bevs 1st 3 examples with the white, linen, rattans, sea grass, antiqued pine, spindle chairs, dark leather and oversized natural coffee tables. What is the length of your sofa? While I love your buffet piece, I don't think it reflects the modern coastal vibe you said you wanted. Would it fit in the dining room? I think it would be easier to build around in there. It would be nice to find a pair of shelving units to flank either side of the TV and console to add some height in the room and interest. Would help break up the wall and provide a cool place for a bar and some wine storage etc. Looks like you have room for the sofa with a pair of chairs on either side-or just one on the door side?. Is there a view you want to be able to look at? Love framed waterway charts/maps.

Can you post a picture from the tv looking toward the sofa?

Dining table with used wood would compliment your buffet and can be dressed up more with the chairs if you like

Moving day has arrived!!! Here is the living room as an empty shell. Having trouble deciding where to put the couch. I'll update soon once I can get somewhat organized so you all can help me to decide where to place furniture.

A couple of tall lamps on the chest behind the sofa would look super.

I would start with placing your sofa and TV with your console in the same place that the previous owner had them. It makes the most sense for the flow of the room. Have fun moving in!

I agree with calidesign about placement of sofa and t.v. I would add two chairs opposite the sliders in an L shape with the sofa. Chairs like the spool chairs Beverly showed with an interesting wood detail instead of fully upholstered would be a great choice. I love the first color palette you showed but those colors are all over my southwest Florida home so I may be a bit prejudiced! I think the Roman Column might be a wonderful color for your walls. By the way, you can have your grout steam cleaned and resealed or newly colored to lighten the contrast with the tiles. Congratulations on your new home!

Classic Sand, Sea, and Driftwood. Keep the sofa white but make rhe chairs blue; switch the colors on sofa and chairs so you keep your white sofa.

The difficult part is deciding which design direction you envision for your beautiful new home!

Would your little console work in the breakfast area. Seems better suited for that area and then get a TV console that is more modern to go with your beautiful sofa. You could pick up the driftwood color or just do white. Some great ones out there. Is the rug temporary? Are you going to paint the walls. I would love the walls to be a really soft blue/green or off white blue green.

Looks great. Love the driftwood. I would consider moving the chair a bit closer to the sofa so they form more of an L shape. Right now the chair seems to overlap the sofa. The chair in the corner could be pulled up further to make it feel part of the conversation area. I like Flo's idea of using a different console for your t.v. and moving your painted console to another spot. It looks like it would be a perfect fit between the two sets of sliders.
