It's well understood that solonaceae (tomatoes, peppers, eggplants) self pollinate, and that self pollination can be done manually by shaking or vibrating the bloom. Looking at the flowers, with the stamen and pistil in close proximity, it would seem that a gentle squeeze should do the job, perhaps a lot better than shaking or vibrating, especially in the summer heat when the pollen is sticky and won't go airborne. Anyone ever tried that? Is there some reason why it wouldn't work? That is, if you're trying to transfer pollen from a stamen to a pistil, physical contact of the pistil and stamen/stigma ought to do it handily.

I haven't had a lot of success by tweaking my eggplant flowers, but I gently squeezed a few and each one fertilized. Maybe I just got lucky?
