That makes perfect sense. A sleeve at the bottom edge. You might even consider making the pole a tad bit longer than the quilt and anchoring it with a chain. Don't want a strong gust lifting it and hitting anything or anyone.

Sounds good but I'd use steel pipe. It's heavier. We used to call it "lead pipe" but they make it from steel now days. You could also use PVC pipe, cap the ends and fill it with pea gravel or sand.

I agree with glassquilt. also, if you make it a bit longer and anchor it it wouldn't have to be quite as heavy.

I have steel rods in the bottom of the Roman shades over my sliding glass door - they work great!

Yes, steel will rust if in a wet environment. If you worry about rain, try PVC filled with sand.

I do make a bottom sleeve for my wall quilts and use a 1" wooden dowel. It's quite heavy.

Thanks everyone, I'll try and get it done this weekend. Had the porch floor painted this week. I want to let it dry and harden for a week or so before I walk on it.
